Disappointing. A movie about Gladiators should have good action scenes, right? Well this one cuts away every time to some other shot like a dark sky and some guy raising a sword, then it flashes to something else. Endless snippets of almost-action yet no substance. I was very sad to see that the director couldn't russle up more than 2 action sequences that were any good (fire arrows and large melee w/chariots in the ring. Also the plot was lame, you knew EXACTLY what was going to happen from the first few minutes. Written by rote as they say. Also why on earth did it take two and a half hours. Not to mention the lame and predictable ending. This is a renter at best IMO.

Even though 'Gladiator' won so many awards and received so many good comments I still believe that the movie was extremely boring!
Ok, let's take things from the beginning. The movie starts out with an energetic battle full of great effects of vivid action that fascinates everyone. But that's the end of the movie for me. The fascination is over. There's nothing more to watch, as in the rest of the film we just have to withstand the blabbering and chaffering of Maximus, Marcus Aurelius, Comudus, Lucilla and the others. All their discussions are so unnecessary and make the film so boring that it's better to just go out of the cinema and return only when the other powerful scene begins- Maximus as a gladiator. 'Gladiator' was created just to impress critics who love history. To the rest of the audience it's just there to offer nothing more than cool visual effects and boredom. I watched the movie twice just to make sure that it was complete rubbish and both times I tried hard not to fall asleep and both times I did not manage! Crowe's performance was not as good as in 'A Beautiful Mind' and did not deserve the oscar. Joaquin Phoenix was alright, but nothing fantastic. Gladiator had a boring plot with a story that was seen in the past so many times and it's time to move away from the revenge and comeback stuff.
I would not suggest this movie to anyone and I was taken aback when I saw so many people adoring it. I wondered why there's so much bad taste in people.
