Free Online The Shining Movie site internet. As a 34 year old who has never seen this film, I decided it was time to take Kubrick's masterclass. I haven't read the book. br> The film was for the most part, excellent.
I believe the quality of the film absolutely lived up to the hype, it is a beautifully crafted piece of cinema.
I felt such a sense of impending doom and suspense throughout basically the entire film, right from the opening helicopter scenes.
I believe it is judged a little harshly as a "horror" film - psychological thriller I think would be a better fit.
That said though, I do think the storytelling lacked some very needed ties. There were lots of great elements in the film but nothing really brought them together, maybe I just didn't get it?
Many things felt totally unexplained. They weren't even attempted to be explained.
Cue out of nowhere a teddy bear costume giving a bj to a random character. br> It had no purpose to the story whatsoever, was just odd.
The ending was also confusing.
The murders happened in the 70's, but the photograph was from the 20's.
That didn't make any sense to me. Why?
Great piece of film, wonderfully engaging but the plot was missing valuable, and in my opinion essential elements to bring it all together.

This movie has been consistently over-rated. While it is, in and of itself, an okay movie, it is a TERRIBLE adaptation of the complex novel by Stephen King.
I have to wonder how this film was ever made in the first place. Obviously Stanley Kubrick was given a half-page summary of the novel, and he went from there. When a director gets even the small details wrong, it's a sure bet that the important details are wrong, and thus the spirit of the novel is gone.
This is, in no way, comparable to Mr. King's novel. A common problem with the film adaptations of his works is that the directors often, arrogantly, believe that they can make a better story with a few "artistic" changes. Kubrick is one of these arrogant directors, and rather than making the story come alive, he made it a parody of itself, thus ruining it.
If you truly want to experience "The Shining" read the novel and skip the film.
