This film start with two boys watching movie together, and one of the boy throwing a triangle device, after he fail to access it scene! As turnout, this film is about Superman need to defeat an alien disguise as human "Rudy Jones" to save his beloved planet earth! Entire film full of quite intense, creepy and exaggeration action scene! Make the film quite watchable! The action scene in the film have, super exaggeration punching, super exaggeration shooting, bloody shooting, bloody punching, shooting with laser eye, super creepy sucking power from the subject, electrocution, and explosion! At the end, Superman wounded! Rudy Jones sacrifice himself by sucking the power from the reactor to save the world! That's it! A recommended animation film.
This new animation style is really lack luster and seems low in quality. Looks cheap like Archer animation style. The story is also pretty boring and is non stop "giving speeches" and jamming down the writers "ideals" down your throats. Lack of good background music also takes away from the experience.
It all adds up making the movie very tedious to watch. So long for DCAU being always able to tell excellent stories, it has now become as bad as the real live movies.
I have not read the original comic from which the movie is adapted from. But this looks like a movie which was stored somewhere in the vault by DC, but just released today owing to lack of new content owing to Covid.
It is a fun adaptation overall, it has its moments and the origins part hardly spans for 10 minutes with his parents and then 10 minutes with the obvious but rest all are relatively new content focussing around Lobo, J'onn and Lex.
We have seen the origin stories a countless times but I think the fans have to just accept that movies like these will keep coming out as franchises like DC and Marvel will continuously want to attract newer generations.
For example, cartoons and comics did not have characters using mobile phones and internet - so when this movie had it - The above thought is the exact thing which came to my mind(JUST AN EXAMPLE.
So yes, may be the origins story need to be constantly updated for the younger audience, so probably the choice to release the movie.
Worth a watch on weekday evening after work.
This was a great installment to the Superman catalog. It felt new, and yet, somehow vintage. The animation style is very saturated with heavy handed brushstrokes (but probably all computer animation. Zachary Quinto as Lex Luther was a clever choice. Quinto will forever be that quintessential (pun) villain type. Lots of little nods to the rest of the DC Justice League universe. It would make a nice starting point to expand that universe in this style and continuity. Perhaps even a weekly serial on HBO MAX / DC Universe.
