リビングルームの主役｜Center of the Living Room｜2020/09/15

25年前に「ホームデザイン倶楽部」というテレビ番組があった。テレンス・コンランさんが家のインテリアについて実例を用いながら紹介するというものだ。その中のリビングルームの回が自分にとって衝撃だった。「リビングルームの主役は何ですか？」とコンランさんが問いかける。「テレビになっていませんか？」…はい、なってます。「リビングの主役は暖炉です」おおー。その後一度も暖炉のある家には住んだことがないけれど、テレビを主役にはさせないように心がけてきた。デザインの延長のインテリアやライフスタイルが楽しかった。ロンドンの街が面白くなったのもコンランさんの功績も大きいと思う。ご冥福をお祈りします。（絵と文：サカキテツ朗）

Twenty-five years ago, there was a TV program called "Home Design Club". Sir Terence Conran introduced the interior of the house with actual examples. The living room times in it were a shock to me. "What is the center of the living room?" He asked. "Isn't it on TV?" ... Yes, it is. "The center of the living room is the fireplace." I've never lived in a house with a fireplace since then, but I've tried not to let the TV play a center role. I enjoyed the interior and lifestyle, which is an extension of the design. I think Sir Conran's achievements have made the city of London interesting. I pray for his soul. -Text and illustration by Ted Sakaki
