I'm a long time fan of all the MCU movies since the very first Iron Man, seen each one of those 20+ movies 3 or more times each. I was in awe after watching Infinity War (IW) and I had the highest of expectations for the EndGame. The joy I felt watching Thor with his new blueish glowing axe and sparking eyes in IW was something imprinted in my mind. Yes, I really expected some glorified battle at least between Thor and IW did gave me the impression Thor is now the mighty superhero, the strongest at least to guide everyone else to whatever was planned to reverse the damage of Thanos in EndGame. Within the 15 first minutes instead of a mighty Thor, we get that laughable drunk guy. WTF Marvel.
Time travel? Ok. it may work or it may not in a movie. But honestly didn't feel like a suitable mechanism for the MCU universe. It felt like the "easy to get back mechanism" trick to restore whatever we have shown so far to the fans. I would rather prefer somehow an arcane ancient relic to be searched and found that would do the trick rather than this "seen so many times" approach of time travel. Honestly, didn't like the whole time-travel thing.
The final battle. not even close to what we have seen in IW. Despite having every hero in there, it was very flat. Thanos was presented as just a bad guy, not that smart impressive genius and "correct" in his own mind. He didn't had the stones, still he looked like he is indestructible. How come this guy has such strength. I could say ok if he had the stones, without them, he still is an impossible-to-beat hero.
Captain Marvel. well I hope MCU does not expect this character to be the new superhero to stand up and carry the whole thing to phase 4. One major issue is she is much more powerful than anyone else. I can't connect with that easily. Even Thor which I believe is the strongest among all superheroes had to go through a lot of pain and suffering all these years to reach at least his maximum potential (to watch him ruined by the authors in the most disgusting way. but let's put that aside. Captain Marvel? No, right at the start she can fly, needs no air, spits fireballs and can bring down a whole spaceship in seconds. So, why the heck she wasn't there in the front line to finish this battlse right away? Utter crap.
Finally, deaths of superheroes. Why why why why why? If you want to retire a character, there are dozen other ways to do that. I felt like these were forced deaths. Ok, I can understand some could die one way or another but all deaths seem to be rediculous; the whole point was just to eliminate them from the future MCU. Ok, just retire the characters in a memorable manner, no need to kill them. It felt like a part of my heart was ripped away in the worst manner; completely unjustified deaths. Other reviewers explained that much better than me and I completely agree with them.
Overall, it was of course visually brilliant but lacked in what matters, the story and this makes it an average film really. Not completely disappointing but didn't feel it made justice to the whole MCU phase 3 or as a worthy IW sequel.
