While she is still a trainee, Crawford asks her to question Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Sir Anthony Hopkins), a psychiatrist imprisoned, thus far, for eight years in maximum security isolation for being a serial killer who cannibalized his victims. Clarice is able to figure out the assignment is to pick Lecter's brains to help them solve another serial murder case, that of someone coined by the media as "Buffalo Bill" (Ted Levine), who has so far killed five victims, all located in the eastern U.S., all young women, who are slightly overweight (especially around the hips), all who were drowned in natural bodies of water, and all who were stripped of large swaths of skin. She also figures that Crawford chose her, as a woman, to be able to trigger some emotional response from Lecter. After speaking to Lecter for the first time, she realizes that everything with him will be a psychological game, with her often having to read between the very cryptic lines he provides. She has to decide how much she will play along, as his request in return for talking to him is to expose herself emotionally to him. The case takes a more dire turn when a sixth victim is discovered, this one from who they are able to retrieve a key piece of evidence, if Lecter is being forthright as to its meaning. A potential seventh victim is high profile Catherine Martin (Brooke Smith), the daughter of Senator Ruth Martin (Diane Baker), which places greater scrutiny on the case as they search for a hopefully still alive Catherine. Who may factor into what happens is Dr. Frederick Chilton (Anthony Heald), the warden at the prison, an opportunist who sees the higher profile with Catherine, meaning a higher profile for himself if he can insert himself successfully into the proceedings; Jonathan Demme; Release Date - 1991; runtime - 1 h 58 M;

Foster put down a good role as Clarice Starling and the supporting cast was very good (think of Buffalo Bill, for example. The star of the show is Anthony Hopkins. The role he put down here is really nothing less than genius. The dude is perfectly cast and is both friendly and polite, and very creepy and smart about it. I think it's an incredibly and fascinating character. Hannibal is for me one of the best psychopaths I've ever seen in a movie.
Overall I highly recommend this movie if you love thrillers and detectives because this is definitely one of the best in its category for me. And i think this movie is also in my top 10 films.

Of course the very best scene is the first meeting with Haniball Lecter himself. Here Jonathan Demme creates on of the greatest, most well-known and most impressive moments of movie theater - accomplished through Anthony Hoppkins astonishing play of the charming serial killer, as it is unique in modern role playing. Unfortunately after this scene the movie loses a part of its quality for quite a while. Putting the most remarkable scene quite in the beginning leads to a permanent comparison of it with the rest of the movie. The middle part for sure has its heights, but tends to lose itself in disinterest. However, due to the impressive character of Hannibal Lecter, the tension never falls and the movie leads to an remarkable height in the second half. It is Lecters breakout, that makes the climax of the movie with its impressive aesthetics and cruelty. Even the audience feels betrayed by the charming and cultivated psychiatrist. The excellent interpretation of Hannibal Lecter even compensates for some cinematic foolishness: While trying to trick the audience, Demme shoots himself at some point. Both the fact that the injured Guard is Lecter himself and that the police breaks into the wrong house are quite obvious - to obvious to fool the audience. additionally the second scene mentioned is a cliché as big as the ending scene. In the end the "Silence of the Lambs" is on of the most remarkable and exciting pieces of movie theater at all.
