It was stated that Netflix was continuing their DVD No. No Frida 2s with 5.3 million customers, which was a significant decrease from the previous year. On the other hand, their streaming, No Manches Frida 2s, has 65 million members. In a March 2019 study that assessed “The Impact of movies of Streaming on Traditional DVD Movie Rentals” it was found that respondents did not buy DVD movies nearly as much, if ever, because streaming had taken over the market.

Agree! +1 to the recommendation. As another commentor mentioned, much of it wasn't particularly new information given that I work in tech and consume much of the discussion around privacy/concerns around social media. I think the documentary breaks it down really well and challenges the audience to think more critically about the services we use. Even things like Reddit. Though it's anonymous, it's reasonable to assume that they are watching/measuring engagement - things like how long we spend in certain subreddits, what posts we upvote, save, comment on, etc. This then influences the sorting of our front page and the ads, and etc. Though reddit feels like we have control given that much of reddit is opt-in, I would still be wary. This is a soapbox opinion so feel free to ignore. lol But imo, I think we all need to think more critically about what we're comfortable with the companies doing and what we're not. Are we really getting sufficient happiness/joy/etc from instagram/fb/reddit even for the potential pitfalls? Are we taking defensive steps to make sure that we're not building addictive loops, etc. At least in the US, the burden unfortunately falls on the individual to protect themselves as the government has not yet caught up from a regulatory perspective on some of the addictive behaviors that these platforms encourage.

‘I didnt know Id gotten to second base with my barber. 🤣😂. So i'm going there to watch it and will be back here soon! byyyeee. If you think really well, when we click an outraging video, we are using OUR power to decide to watch a video made by a human being with the power to make it. The algorithm is really complex, but it's merely a pile of organized code. It's way clearer and less frightening when you have some dev experience. What triggers us to click a video, like I did on this one, is a very human reaction. If there's no machine facilitating it, we go after in other ways, like we used to do back in the 90s. Everything we have today in an old human desire, otherwise people would leave it all at the mercy of the oblivion.

I'm wasting a lot of time whaching those videos and documentaries about wasting time on social media. This is like watching a wild lion doing tricks at the circus. Snowden never threatened blackmail, he never threatened to release info if they didn't pay him. He never asked for anything like a traitor would. What did he have to gain? He lost everything including his home and family. He did it knowing he would probably be put in jail or killed if he didn't go on the run but yet he did it anyway. A patriot if there ever was one. Their chemistry feels intense thru the screen! Hot couple! 😍 Thanks for the fun video.

Thanks for making such good content 💫. I was inspired to make this post after reading the discussion on The Social Dilemma here. I'm really glad this film is bringing corporate surveillance and the evils of the social media business model to a wider audience, but Netflix engages in a lot of the same behavior. Do not let them convince you that it's only their social media competitors who do so (the acronym is FAANG for a reason - those companies are one another's only viable competitors). As I said in my comment on another post, I set up a pi-hole DNS server to block ads and tracking domains on my home wifi. Netflix's tracking domain,, quickly became the number one most blocked domain on my entire network, which is used by two laptops, an iPhone, a Sonos speaker, an Apple Watch and my smart TV. In just the past 24 hours, during which I only used my smart TV to watch two episodes of Gilmore Girls, totaling 90 minutes, Netflix pinged that tracking domain 734 times. During the same time period they pinged, which appears to be used for their actual video streaming, just 400 times. The next most blocked domain was a Microsoft tracking endpoint that was hit just 33 times in that same time period. The next most blocked smart TV domain, meaning it was relevant during the exact same 90 minutes that I was watching Netflix, was an amazon domain that was hit just 29 times. This is a tracking endpoint that can be safely blocked without impeding any of Netflix's functionality. It exists solely to collect data on your viewing behavior. I no longer have social media so I can't directly compare the tracking behavior to Netflix, but in the last 30 days my pi-hole blocked 3. 5x as many requests to as it did to and 5x as many as, which are both used by a wide variety of websites and apps as a third party tracker. Netflix may not have an ads-based business model that relies on selling your data or predictions about your behavior to third parties to make money, but do not let The Social Dilemma fool you into thinking they aren't tracking your every move in order to manipulate your behavior and get you to spend more time using their apps. I also found a very interesting paper on smart TV tracking which I'd recommend you all read, as they appear to be the biggest culprits in violating our privacy and profiting off of our behavior and the data it produces. The Age of Surveillance Capitalism by Shoshana Zuboff is also an excellent read if you're interested in learning about this topic in more depth. Final food for thought: one of the founders of Netflix, Marc Randolph, is the great nephew of Edward Bernays, the man credited with founding the Public Relations industry, and who is on record as saying that he picked that term because the Nazis had ruined the word "propaganda. " He is also the great, great nephew of Sigmund Freud.

Tristan you are a genius. You have hit the nail on the head ❤ the outcome is so so sad 😢 we need to share and share and share this video. I love using the network but unlike many people, I simply use it to find out information like this, like many others,it's crazy how reliant people are to social media,it really stuff's people's lives, the world has finally gone MAD totally and utterly MAD. At last youtube recommended me this😭😭😭. I'm mentally sick. Especially JustAnotherGrunt's. 4:09 what a difference, Russell mate you need to learn how to do it properly 😂.

Let the battery go Dead, charge when I need it. I didn't read the headline I thought they're making a cake 🤣 They look so adorable together. I stare into the soulless eye of my camera furiously when I beat it. Im not going to let them win. Lets be real here, you clicked on this video to see who his misses is or what she's like. I think I'm obsessed with you two together and I can't believe I just watched this but have no little kids. I feel weird now. But it was fun watching and feeling your chemistry together. Much Love.

Yes that is true. Google maps send me all the places that I have been every month. With software there are only two possibilities: either the users control the program or the program controls the users. If the program controls the users, and the developer controls the program, then the program is an instrument of unjust power. Richard M Stallman.

“I didnt know Id gone to second base with my barber.” 🤣🤣🤣 Hilarious. All these geniuses, creators and successful business folk should fix the problem then. Me talks about Starbucks Goes on ig 5 mins later Starbucks ad on ig. Ooook, I get it, I have to watch social dilemma. Brb.

Surf our page. Please do an interview with Laura... Regarding mental health. She seems to have a really well adjusted and warm personality... I'd like to know her self care practices, or the challenges she's faced... 🌿🕊️. When ever someone mentions Facebook or instagram I cant help but want to go look at those websites/apps. Unfortunately deleting those apps would cut a line of communication with many people that I dont have other lines of communication with. There's a recently released Netflix documentary called "The Social Dilemma" that's been going somewhat viral and has made it's way into Netflix's list of trending videos. The documentary is more or less an attack on social media platforms (mostly Facebook) and how they've steadily been contributing to tearing apart society for the better part of the last decade. There's interviews with a number of former top executives from Facebook, Twitter, Google, Pinterest (to name a few) and they explain how sites have used algorithms and AI to increase users' engagement, screen time, and addiction (and therefore profits), while leading to unintended negative consequences (the rise of confirmation bias, fake news, cyber bullying, etc). There's a lot of great information presented, none of which is that surprising for data scientists or those who have done even a little bit of research on social media. In a way, it painted the practice of data science in a negative light, or at least how social media is unregulated (which I do agree it should be). But I know there's probably at least a few of you who have worked with social media data at one point or another, so I'd love to hear thoughts from those of you who have seen it.

Thank you for sharing. @63 years old, I'm not a millionaire. I never got into tech to make money, but rather to follow what I love. I appreciate the time you take, to explain your life. Well said. The documentary is quite disturbing. As other reviewers said, it is a few years late as this documentary should have been released when social media was really taking off.
As a new parent, it made me think about the times I chose to look at my phone instead of giving my attention to my son. But it also scares me thinking that one day, my son would want a smartphone with all the negative consciousness that unfortunately will follow.
Technology is an amazing thing. And as an optimist, I believe that all the tools created by the technology weren't meant to be used in a nefarious way. Perhaps is our human nature. Or the need for these technology companies to financially outperform their previous quarter.
My only criticism is Russia. Even though it has been proved that Russia didn't affect the results of the 2016 US election, the documentary actually makes the point that it did. So perhaps, this documentary is just any social network.

#WatchThe SocialOnlinePromptfile. The Social Dilemma putlocker9 The Social fUll mOvIe to watch. WHY DOES THIS NOT HAVE MORE VIEWS! Pretty damn important. I'm honestly convinced that documentary was all but designed to trigger the backfire effect. It had such a strong air of suburban soccer mom "cell phone bad", and didn't dive at all into any of the real issues like privacy, censorship, surveillance capitalism, etc. Their message wasn't even really to condemn the people who built these platforms, or regulate or reform them, so much as blame the general public for being cell phone crack addicts charicatures, like If YoU gIvE a KiD a CeLl PhOnE tHeY'lL jOiN QANON aNd DiE. It felt like one big "The Real Cost" ad. What pisses me off more than anything is the category for it on Netflix- The Social Dilemma is just considered a documentary, while Terms and Conditions May Apply, back when it was on there, was labeled "conspiracy theory". Terms and Conditions May Apply actually did any amount of investigative journalism, talked to real EFF and ACLU lawyers, analyzed terms and conditions with internet archival services, traced data through the ad analytics pipeline (they show a big network graph of the many, many analytics companies), etc., and generally did their homework to expose the terrifying degree to which we live under surveillance, but that's a CoNsPiRaCy ThEoRy.
