宗隣寺の池泉は発掘調査が行われた際、池の底から南北朝時代の庭園遺構が見つかりました。その最も大きな特徴は作庭記に登場する干潟様、そして二列に並んだ夜泊石です。特に干潟様は他に毛越寺庭園にしか作例が無く、また二列の夜泊石も他に例がありません。この庭園は庭園は1968年に発掘調査に基づき重森三玲により復元されました。復元された庭は「龍心庭」と命名され公開されています。様式は須弥山式禅宗庭園とのことです。本堂と自然の山に挟まれた細長い敷地に、巻物を横に長く広げたような細い池が作られています。長さは目測４０m以上はありそうです。池は西と東の２つに小さなクビレで分かれています。西池には浮殿のような茶室があり池には岩島はありません。庭の中心は東池で、夜泊石や干潟様など多くの岩島や美しい護岸石組などがあります。夜泊石は東池の西岸から東に向かって真っ直ぐ一列４石で２列に並んで池の中に立っています。１列目の鋭く尖った山のような２つの立石が厳しさの中にも美しさをたたえ大変印象的です。また屋根付き竜頭船の形の古式の舟石が置かれている西岸の地底一帯は浅瀬になっており干潟様が広がっています。水位が下がると、なだらかな傾斜に小石を敷き詰めた干潟が池の底から姿を現します。その際、舟石は干潟の上に取り残された姿になります。背後の山は見上げんばかりの急斜面でその中央最上部に須弥山に見たてた石を立て、その下へ順にサツキの大刈り込み、蘇鉄、枯滝石組が配置されています。それらに向かい合う形で池の手前岸に州浜と枯流れがあり時間軸を表しています。一方夜泊石の時間軸は左から右に表現されており、この庭には２つの時間軸が直交していることになります。まさしく須弥山を中心とした仏教的宇宙観を具現化した庭なのでしょう。宗隣寺「龍心庭」は山口県の日本庭園で最も見るべき庭の１つです。

When the pond of Sorinji Temple was excavated, the remains of a garden from the Northern and Southern Dynasties were found from the bottom of the pond. The biggest feature is "Higata-yo" that appears when the water level of the pond becomes low. And it is "Yahaku-seki" that expresses that the fleet heading for the legendary Horai Island is moored at the port the night before departure. This garden was restored by Mirei Shigemori in 1968 based on an archaeological excavation. The restored garden is named "Ryushin-tei" and is open to the public. There is a narrow, horizontally long pond on the long and narrow site between the main hall and the natural hills. The length is likely to be 40m or more. Two rows of Yahaku-seki stand in the pond from the west bank of the pond to the east. 4 stones per row. The sharp, pointed mountain-like stones are harsh, beautiful and very impressive. The underground area on the west bank, where there are boat stones in the image of an old-fashioned ship with a covered crown bow, is shallow, and when the water level drops, tidal flats covered with pebbles appear from the bottom of the pond. At that time, the boat stone will be left behind on the tidal flat. The mountain on the opposite bank of the pond is a steep slope, and a stone representing Mt. Meru, the center of the Buddhist world, is erected at the top of the center, and azaleas, cycads, and dry waterfall stones are placed in order below it. There is a beach and a dry stream on the front shore of the pond facing them, representing the time axis. On the one hand, the time axis of Yahaku-seki is expressed from left to right, which means that the two time axes are orthogonal to each other in this garden. It is a garden that embodies the Buddhist view of the universe centered on Mt. Meru. Sorinji Temple "Ryushinba" is one of the most visible Japanese gardens in Yamaguchi Prefecture.
