"Sen-nyoji Daihioin" Fukuoka-pref.
Sen-nyoji Temple was originally a general term for a group of monks in Raizan, a training ground for Shinto and Buddhism. It has a long history and was opened in 725 at the request of Emperor Shomu. At its peak, there were 300 temples in the mountains. The only temple that was devastated by the war in the Azuchi-Momoyama period from the latter half of the Muromachi period and remained under the Shinbutsu bunri decree of the Meiji period was Sen-nyoj and Daihioin, which was opened by the Fukuoka domain and Kuroda Tsugutaka in the Edo period. The place where this temple was opened was the site of a temple in the Muromachi period, and a pond garden was left behind. The garden has been renovated in each subsequent era and continues to the present day. The 600-year-old sandalwood towering in the center was planted during the Muromachi period when the garden was built. In addition, the revetment stone group of the pond has been significantly renovated in recent years. At the end of the stream that flows out of the pond to the other side of the temple, there is a Karesansui garden with a 400-year-old maple tree planted by the Fukuoka clan, Tsugutaka Kuroda, who founded Sen-nyoji and Daihioin.
