Having watched the lighthouse it ABSOLUTLY is a film that leaves you going whaaa at the end of it so much of it is left sort of vague and unexplained, both characters could be lairs or insane (or both) and both are claim they arent but the other is and both are shown to be well. both, the dialoge even contradicts the visuals somethimes even the last shot of the movie sort of comes unexplained, logicaly there is no way it could have happened from the previous shot, but at the same time the film predicted it and told you it WOULD happen before it ever does its VERY much a film leaving you going wha at the end, but the good kind of wha not what the hell that was dumb or what the hell did i watch none of that made any sense kind of wha but the what was real, what was the truth, what ACTUALLY happened kind of wha.
Patterson in this, GoodTimes, and The King truly shows his brilliance in acting. Ok, so maybe the only true sea shanty I've ever heard, BUT, I'm sure its the BEST sea shanty! Thx Lighthouse. Lets really confuse people Star Wars: Rise Of The Machines. What the hell. One Cut of the Dead was amazing and I'm glad I took Jay's advice and saw it blind. Now I've gotten friends to love it too after forcing them to watch the first half. Go see it. Everyone who is a true Christian has the Light if Jesus Christ within so we are the Lords lighthouse too in this World make sure we all have our wickes trimed that the Light of Christ will shine from us to those who are lost in this World. Boy I miss the prequels...
What type of man would voluntarily decide to man a lighthouse, away from the comforts of home and hearth, family and friends? How would he pass his day? What would be his mental state? And what if things were not as they seemed to be but were much darker.
Extremely intense, mind boggling at times, brilliantly acted (how did William Defoe NOT get a nomination for this) and built on the subtext of Greek mythology, The Lighthouse is certainly not meant for everyone.
It is in black and white, which may put off many viewers. The dialogues, especially Defoe's are rich in antiquated English and may not be easily decipherable without subtitles. The fantasy part would have you marching over to Google (like me) and trying to understand what the hell did you end up seeing.
For those who would not be detered by it, this promises riches. Multitudes of them.

You know, I'm something of a lighthouse keeper myself.
This movie was filmed in my hometown: Yarmouth, NS! They used a lighthouse nearby at Cape Forchu, although only the location and not the lighthouse itself which looks too modern. They did many interiors at a hanger at our local airport. Sadly I never did see the stars although they did roam around town I heard.
Still deciding if this is or is not the best film Ive ever made. Im curious what Mike and Rich think about The Mandalorian.
