「土屋家庭園 」大分県・”Tsuchiya Residence Garden“ Oita-pref

大分県佐伯市は小さな城下町。現在も武家屋敷の白い築地塀が通り沿いに続く伝統的な町並みが残されています。その一画にある土屋家の屋敷に美しい池泉回遊式庭園があります。土屋家は江戸時代に佐伯藩の藩医をつとめた由緒ある家柄。屋敷側からのぞむ庭の背景右半分は城山の急斜面で木々が植栽され、背景左半分の緩やかな傾斜に枯流れがあります。枯流れの起点がある庭の最奥部にある茶室のような数寄屋建築実は車のガレージで景観に配慮しています。枯流れの護岸石組みはしっかりしており深さも十分あり底には小石が敷き詰められ、河岸から岬のように突き出した石の上に可愛い家型の置灯籠がのせられとても風流です。その他にも立派な石橋が２つも架けられています。庭園の歴史的な詳細は不明ですが、江戸時代から続くお屋敷なので当然そこに古い庭があったはずですが、現在の庭は明治頃の特徴をそなえているように思えます。庭に面して新旧二棟の和風建築がL字に連結してたっています。古さを感じさせる明治〜大正時代とおぼしき上屋が入母屋づくりの建物に、二階建て寄棟づくりの建物を後から建て直角に繋いでいますが、屋根の高さを合わせて調和を図っているので違和感がありません。

Saiki City, Oita Prefecture is a small castle town. Even today, the traditional townscape with white samurai residences on both sides of the street remains. The beautiful Chisenkaiyu shiki garden is located in the Tsuchiya Residence. The Tsuchiya family has a long history of serving as a clan doctor for the Saiki domain during the Edo period. Trees are planted on the steep slope of Shiroyama in the right half of the background of the garden seen from the mansion side, and there is a dry stream on the gentle slope in the left half of the background. The building like a tea room in the innermost part of the garden, which is the starting point of the flow, is actually a garage and considers the scenery. The dry stream is deep enough, with pebbles paved at the bottom, and the house-shaped lanterns placed on the stones protruding from the riverbank like a cape are very nice. In addition, there are two magnificent stone bridges. The historical details of the garden are unknown, but since it is a mansion that has been around since the Edo period, there must have been an old garden there, but the current garden seems to have the characteristics of the Meiji era. Facing the garden, two old and new Japanese buildings are connected in an L shape. It seems that the building with the Irimaya building was built around the Meiji or Taisho era, and the house with the connected hipped roof was built later, but the two houses are trying to harmonize the landscape by matching the height of the roof.
