「霧島メアサ杉」の巨木が林立する唯一無二の庭園。植林が始まったのは約10４０年前の文久元年頃。杉の足元には石灯籠や枯滝石組が設えられています。霧島メアサ杉は花粉が少ない品種なので花粉症の人も安心です。園路が整備され回遊できます。ムササビが住んでいるそうです。また霧島ホテルには硫黄谷庭園大浴場もあります。

"100 year cedar garden / Kirishima Hotel" Kagoshima-pref

This is "100 year cedar garden" of "Kirishima Hotel" in Kirishima city, Kagoshima pref. A dry waterfall stone composition is created under tall cedars, this cedar forest is a Japanese garden. And stone towers and stone lanterns are also placed. During the Edo era, founder of this hotel started afforestation for appreciation purpose. And the successive owners raised cedar for a long time and made it into a garden. Cedar forests over 150 years old. This Japanese garden is a rare type we do not see elsewhere. The world of the Japanese garden is truly diverse.
