synopsis: Gomes and Morticia Addams move to a derelict mansion in New Jersey surrounded by a marsh and hidden by a fog in the top of a mountain to raise a family. Thirteen years later, Gomes is teaching his son Pugslay the saber tradition of the Addams family while Wednesday is questioning her mother about the world outside the mansion gate. Meanwhile a community is raised by Margaux Needler, who is the responsible for the sales of the house, and the marsh is drained. The addams family stories. The addams family 2 2021. We took our seven year old son to see this. He loves some of the darker animated films that have come out in recent years and my partner and I are fans of the 90s pair of films not including the woeful 'Reunion.
The cinema was dead quiet throughout, aside from one grown man chuckling at the odd 'joke' and heads turning towards him as if to ask what he found funny.
9, Paranorman, Boxtrolls, Monster House, Coraline and even older movies such as Nightmare Before Christmas should of served as a template of sorts for this. Instead it is what it is - a dull, generic affair which is put to shame on almost all fronts by something like Hotel Transylvania - in its third outing!
How this was ever test screened without going back for heavy revisions I don't understand, and I'm no personal fan of audience and studio meddling as it rarely ends well for the film, but this really needed something to be done for it.
We only stayed until the end to find out if there was anything worthwhile in the film. Alas, there really wasn't.
3 stars out of 10 for decent voice acting and animation only. What a waste of an attempt at revitalising this franchise for a younger generation.
And for anyone wondering, we asked our 7 year old son what he thought, as ultimately that's what really matters, he just shrugged his shoulders and asked if we were going to McDonald's. That said enough for us.
