I deactivated from Social media. I don't intend to go back. I feel happier! I'm getting my desire back to do my art and be creative again. I'm reading and enjoying it again! I'm learning and thinking. My concentration time is increasing again! Getting more social in real life again. Although there is some truth in its message, this film is extremely one sided. It would be much more believable if they included some people with different opinions. As is, it 'sounds like' an echo chamber of a bunch of social media haters.
Yes! They have some good arguments, but most of them are plain nonsense.
Some messages are:
"Social media shows ads and manipulate people into buying stuff as well as some" Welcome to real world! Everything in your life has been manipulated by media and advertisement for decades (at least. How you dress, eat, talk, think. That's how media and advertisement work. Social media is just another tool.
"Social media enables fake news and polarization. Really? How about the times before social media? We had two world wars in a decade and a decades long cold war. Who polarized people in 20th century?
Before social media:
1 - Average people on the street did not have a platform to express their ideas. I don't understand how a progressive "intellectual" can have a problem with that.
2 - Average person did not have the chance to show their skills to the world. Media and Show business were controlled by a bunch of elites. Now, anybody can start a TV channel in youtube, or publish an independent movie on social media.
Social media enabled people to share ideas, find like-minded people, hear different opinions and many other positives. So, instead of starting a war against internet companies, why let's start a dialogue. Try and educate people, make internet safe for vulnerable people. Cars are useful, and also super dangerous. But, we don't banish them, right? We have been trying to make them safer.

Because of this, and because Ive had other complications since transplant, I have to wear a mask each year during flu season and when I go to the hospital for treatments several times a month throughout the year. Ive adjusted to the odd looks, the headaches they cause, the fog they create on glasses & sunglasses, getting out of breath more easily since my breathing is already made more difficult due to meds. But ultimately its a small price to pay to (help) keep me out of a hospital bed - a place Ive spent more than my fair share of time, with much pain and many tears. For the record, masks arent perfect and NOBODY wants to wear them. They arent a fix for ANY virus and they certainly arent guaranteed. Nothing is. Thus the “disclaimer” on the boxes and given by the scientific community regarding Covid. However, according to the knowledge we have AT THIS TIME, they DO help. I have been incredibly saddened and ashamed of my fellow Christians and fellow conservative voters who show absolutely no concern for the suffering they may inflict on me, and others like me, by putting us at risk. This shouldnt make a difference but for some reason it does and people tend to use the excuse that the old (vulnerable) people should simply quarantine in order to stay healthy. But unfortunately many of the people that are in the vulnerable/high-risk category are also the people who have to keep doctor appts, go to the hospital, and pick up medications from the pharmacy. I go to extreme lengths to run any (absolutely necessary) errands during “off” hours to avoid crowds. At times I have to leave the house when Im quite sick because I have no other option. Those who are healthy are making it harder on those of us who are already suffering. Perhaps I wouldnt have to worry about that if I knew people were doing their part to keep others safe. Perhaps I would be able to attend church for the first time in months if Christians actually WERE pro-life and werent so angry at the thought of MY ILLNESS infringing on their constitutional right to a visible face. As it is, I find that theyre quite happy to risk a life as long as they dont have to wear a mask to the funeral. The thing is, I realize that most people just arent thinking about things from the perspective of a chronically ill person. I dont think that most people want to hurt others, they just dont know enough about why they should change their behavior. Yes, most people will recover just fine. Most people wont have to live with permanent damage. Most people wont be put on a ventilator and risk their organs shutting down. But some of us will. I hope you can appreciate how hurtful and insulting it is to know that such a tiny gesture, like covering your mouth in public, is too much to ask of people who have the luxury of good health. That my wellness - any human life - is worth so little to someone. Ive read comments below that literally say, “since when have we started to care about other peoples health”. To those of you who find it so demeaning and difficult to wear a mask for the good of someone else, God help you if you ever endure some kind of ACTUAL physical hardship. You wont make it. However, when it happens, I hope the world shows more kindness to you than you have shown to it. Truly. Most importantly I feel an incredible gratitude to so many who help to ease my (our! suffering by shouldering some of the weight. The fact that it requires some inconvenience to do it only makes it more meaningful. Thank you. You make a difference 💜.
