They say it is a Dark movie - how wrong they are - it is a movie far from dark, it is full of light, bright and clear for the people to see and know about the ones which the world does not give anything about - that is the punch line of the movie in my view - Nobody gives anything about you - this is a movie about the anything they give back that they never got. This is a movie about the vulnerable, it is a movie about the defenseless, it is movie about the ones that are bullied for their good nature and left in the lurch, it is a movie about the complex actions of the mentally challenged but not cognitively or intellectually impaired.
It is a movie that makes us think critically about the ever present neglect of the economically less endowed in our society. It is a movie where we see people rise up instigated by accusation that the clowns contribute to the crumbling economy. It is a movie about the vacuum in the ethos of people and vengeful actions that fill that space.
The plot may look shallow and unnerving at the surface, once you dip your finger, it becomes unfathomably deep in perspective. Make no mistake, this movie can make many a viewer confused about the core theme of the plot.
The character study of Joker by Todd Phillips and the words put in his mouth by Scott Silver and most importantly the impeccable portrayal by Joaquin Phoenix is exemplary, it makes one gasp for words to describe the complex simplicity with which these three merge to give us a movie that is arguably one of the best in recent times.
The plot makes us think about the human pain, the narrative revolves around the innate anxiety of the weak at the same time it stays firmly grounded on some of the simplest aspects of basic human nature one can find in anyone. Retribution is a theme here in the plot, albeit allegorical and metaphorical in acuity. There are times in the movie that takes you along inside someone who wants just to exist, it tests one to the limits of one's thoughts.
The Joker's dance and the twisting of the contours of his scrawny shape after every act of vengeance is the hall mark of the Movie, the - laugh at nothing - cant be described in words, it is the class of Phoenix's acting prowess that takes you on. The music is a class in itself, unparalleled in comparison, Hidlur Guonadottir, the Icelandic composer who composed for Chernobyl does a score that will slowly seep into your inner mind. In a male dominated world, she excels unmatched. The Cello - of special mention is the track - Looking for Answers - so profound and reflective is the resonation that it starts to reverberate deep inside you mind. We get a sequence of Chaplin's Modern Times in the movie which in itself, I think is a message.
In all, the Joker is a stirring movie that has the potential to shake the insides of your mind - The movie transcends a master work of holistic art, it is simply a chef-d'oeuvre.
