Countries USA; duration 1hour 58M; F.B.I. trainee Clarice Starling (Jodie Foster) works hard to advance her career, while trying to hide or put behind her West Virginia roots, of which if some knew, would automatically classify her as being backward or white trash. After graduation, she aspires to work in the agency's Behavioral Science Unit under the leadership of Jack Crawford (Scott Glenn). While she is still a trainee, Crawford asks her to question Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Sir Anthony Hopkins), a psychiatrist imprisoned, thus far, for eight years in maximum security isolation for being a serial killer who cannibalized his victims. Clarice is able to figure out the assignment is to pick Lecter's brains to help them solve another serial murder case, that of someone coined by the media as "Buffalo Bill" (Ted Levine), who has so far killed five victims, all located in the eastern U.S., all young women, who are slightly overweight (especially around the hips), all who were drowned in natural bodies of water, and all who were stripped of large swaths of skin. She also figures that Crawford chose her, as a woman, to be able to trigger some emotional response from Lecter. After speaking to Lecter for the first time, she realizes that everything with him will be a psychological game, with her often having to read between the very cryptic lines he provides. She has to decide how much she will play along, as his request in return for talking to him is to expose herself emotionally to him. The case takes a more dire turn when a sixth victim is discovered, this one from who they are able to retrieve a key piece of evidence, if Lecter is being forthright as to its meaning. A potential seventh victim is high profile Catherine Martin (Brooke Smith), the daughter of Senator Ruth Martin (Diane Baker), which places greater scrutiny on the case as they search for a hopefully still alive Catherine. Who may factor into what happens is Dr. Frederick Chilton (Anthony Heald), the warden at the prison, an opportunist who sees the higher profile with Catherine, meaning a higher profile for himself if he can insert himself successfully into the proceedings; Ted Tally, Thomas Harris; 1162479 Vote;

My favorite movie. Will always be grateful to this movie. Met two girls at it and had an incredible time afterwards. Starring Morgan freeman as uneasy reader. Trust me I will watch in the next couple of days or so. It will happen and cant wait! I think this movie will be a lot better just based on the clips I saw then most of the movies being shown today. I mean how many times is Hollyweird going to remake “ Little Women” or a “Star is born”.
1 of the best channels on YOUTUBE. Thank you.
One of the best movies ever made.
This movie forgot about 2 major sin of humanity. Grudge and Indifferent.
This movie tells an over-the-top story that reeks of phoniness, grisly violence and exploitation.
Best movie ever.
Why is this the greatest movie ever, you might ask. Well, for starters you can watch the movie several times over and get something different out of it each time. Let me just clarify that by saying that I'm not a person who watches it over and over because 'Lecter is the greatest character ever and I idolize him. I like the movie because of the extreme detail we see in character development, the cinematography, and the tension that's built up. I can't sympathize with people who were shocked and horrified that Lecter would actually act the way he did in 'Hannibal. These people obviously never actually realized that he had been in that cell for a reason.
Anyway, every character in this film (except maybe Dr. Chilton) is changed by the end of it. And isn't that why we choose to show the sequence of events that unfold in a story? Every character has a great arc that is logically followed and believable. Clarice is a wonderful character, and you really understand how she could affect a psycho-path in the manner that she did. Crawford is presented as an interesting foil to Lecter in that he is the other predominant male figure in Starling's life. After the loss of her actual father, she seems to seek these father figures to help her through her life. That is, until the end when she has grown enough to strike out on her own.
As for getting more and more out of it with each viewing, to give you an example: I recently revisited the film and the scene where Lecter is in the actual cage came up. As Clarice is being dragged out, he hands her the case file and, in the process, brushes his finger against hers. That particular shot of their hands has always given me the creeps. But I finally realized that it was 'The Birth of Man. The ceiling of the Sistine Chapel (please forgive my ignorance if I'm misspelling anything) depicts God bestowing life on Adam by touching his finger in a similar manner. By handing Clarice the case file, Lecter is helping to save Catherine Martin's life. She has taught him to care (even if it is only sometimes. Now, maybe this wasn't the intent for the shot at all. Or maybe it was the intent and it's so obvious that I'm a big dope for not having noticed it before, but I find these sorts of things every time I watch this movie. And that, to me, makes it wonderful.
I've had this movie 2 years, all of a sudden the sound stops working. Don't give me troubleshooting tips or suggest it's my device because every other movie works just fine. I once called a company on the phone for something work related. While in the waiting queue, that music started playing. Luckily for them, it wasn't a cosmetics company. It bothers me so much that he uses the wrong eye to aim. Too in demo skeleton when ip forming etc mimic animal dna structure op like in scanner doplicate scifi birth being only human not animal or green etc. 4:33 Goodbye Horse(s. Anthony Hopkins was then known as a distinguished gentleman, composed and scholarly. His turn as a cannibal serial killer was a complete turn against the types he played previously. The brilliance of his performance was the gentlemanly manner he brought to this performance. It was Excellent.

I would definitely like a video breaking down the perfection of the end of The Silence of the Lambs. This is the most convincing portrayal of a psycho I've ever seen. It's so well done watching it is genuinely unsettling. This guy should have won an Oscar. Jodie Foster was amazing in The Accused and in The Silence of The Lambs.
