Being a huge fan of the Star Wars universe, I'm giving the original trilogy a 10/10 score as a whole.
It is always difficult to make the follow up to an amazing movie, especially one of the best hero journeys of all time; A new hope. The Empire Strikes Back, however, does this masterfully. Continuing to expand the universe with character relations, groundbreaking design/special effects of their time and and enthrilling story. Where this movie shines though, is the third act of the film. The challenges and situations our heroes find themselves in, together with one of the most surprising revelations in cinematic history, leaves us wanting nothing more than to jump right into the third movie to explore the thrilling conclusion.
The acting, the effects and the overall feel of the movies have, of course, aged over time, which in my opinion only contributes to the nostalgic feeling of the trilogy. It is remarkable how the vision of George Lucas has had such a groundbreaking impact on the history of science fiction, yet the trilogy still stands as universally accepted classics in today's mainstream media. However successful the prequels and ever-expanding sequels might be, the originals are cinematic marvels in my eyes.

 

Star Wars: Episode V- The Empire Strikes Back is a fast paced and action packed movie that delivers on all levels. It has emotion, a great love triangle, action, amazing visual effects and phenomenal dialogue and acting.

The banter between the main characters Han Solo, Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker is perfect and often times hilarious. Harrison Ford's portrayal of Han Solo is much better and more enjoyable in this sequel. His charisma is a delight. The chemistry these characters have is perfect.

The opening scene where Luke Skywalker gets captured by a Bigfoot looking creature and saved by Han Solo is one of the best opening scenes ever and proves that the movie is fast paced and dives right into the plot.

The appearance of Ben Obi Wan Kenobi and him being a sort of guide to Luke Skywalker is great. He inspired Luke to become a Jedi. On the other hand, Yoda trained Luke to become a Jedi, but his training was short lived.

The final fight between Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader aka Anakin Skywalker is amazing. The infamous "I am your father" line fitted perfectly in the scene.

The ending sets up the third movie in the franchise where Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, C3PO and R2D2 set out on a mission to rescue Han Solo from Jabba the Hutt.

To conclude, Empire Strikes Back is a worthy sequel and even better than the first Star Wars movie. It is visually pleasing and a joy to watch. Every character is incredibly likable and the camaraderie between the characters is on point. No wonder this movie received an Oscar and worldwide recognition. Everyone should see this movie at least once in their life.
