He latches onto Hank because Hank represents what is normal. He can't readily accept that Hank is gay because it shatters his illusions of what gay means. Also, I think Cowboy might be the young man Hank mentions having sex with in the train station bathroom. There's a look they share not long after Cowboy enters the scene. It's not a sexually-suggestive look. It's a look of recognition and understanding.

I only watched this for Jim parsons from the big bang theory then i found that it is actually a really good film... I was worried in the beginning that it's just a bunch of gays being gay. surprisingly, it's a great film, well actually it is a bunch of gays being gay, but, it has an upside, it has a wonderful dialogue and an intriguing story line... Jim parsons is still sheldon cooper... I love it... NAOTB: New Adults On The Block. The only fault I had with the movie is the ending as it didn't find out what happened to all the characters, but I am assuming that how the play ends and so I am left to wonder.
It's simple and easy to understand why marginalized groups would wish to be different. Gay to be straight. Black to be white. Female to be male, and so forth. Society does not encourage happiness, only conformity, or prejudice. Unless your born a white straight male, you may never know the lonely feeling of exclusion. And, believe me, many still wish to reinforce this separation in sometimes extreme and dangerous degrees around the world. And totally delude themselves of the rightness of this behavior.

Its scary that a story that takes place almost 50 years ago and a Broadway play from around the same time, is still so relevant this day.
if the setting would have been 2020 the story wouldn't have been much different except their drinking games would have happened with mobile phones. Its scary that within 50 years just a few things changed but the intolerance still is int his world. A powerful film that spreads a powerful message. its a great ensemble piece with many fantastic performances involved. First of all you have Jim Parsons who is getting a lot of juicy roles lately and this is one of them. I hope he keeps up with them, also outside of Ryan Murphy productions. He really is wonderful and gives a great and honest performance. Zachary Quinto was also good in a character you never knew if you like him or hate him. Matt Bomer had his moments in a tender performance but was a bit in a shadow. The great standout was in my opinion Robin de Jesus. At first you thought you had the most annoying stereotype on hand, but the way his character developed and the way de Jesus actually portrayed this transformation is pure acting and absolutely fascinating to see. An award worthy performance for sure.
But all of the actors are great. The film had a great atmosphere, a wisely chosen soundtrack and great dialogue work.
