This is a hard documentary to review as the true events are so incredibly horrible. True events aside, the way the documentary was done came across as a bit odd to me. In a way it almost seemed like it wanted to be a movie. The director was a bit heavy handed in trying to shape a narrative to an extent, especially with the closing written text that can easily be interpreted as anti male. The real life texts shown from the victim also rubbed me the wrong way and I found myself skipping over those parts. It seemed too much like an invasion of privacy, and didn't really add any necessary information. The victim states herself she is controlling/needy and "needs things done a certain way" in a Facebook video included in the movie. That covers all we needed to know on that front. We don't need to see personal texts that can be easily taken out of context and if anything portray the victim in a poor light. All that said, it's a documentary that tries to tell a story that the world should know about. I just wish it had been done in a more traditional true documentary style. I ended up doing some more research on this story and found a very educational YouTube video by jcs criminal psychology on Chris watts. I'd recommend that over this documentary, but this is still worth a watch. If you have time to watch both then you should walk away with a good idea of the whole picture. 6/10.
There must have been quite a few people that were watching back in 2018, when the police cam footage and interrogation videos were being released almost on a daily basis. If you were one of those people, there is nothing new here. In fact, this documentary comes across as rushed. There's masses of footage available online, if you want to take this story further.
Saying that, Watts is a sick individual and never deserves to be released.
I don't think there's a day goes by when this case doesn't come in to my head.
Horrific, to say the absolute least.
