A film which at times was uncomfortable viewing but also contains many fun and heartbreaking moments. Jack Nicolson has that cheeky charmer character down very well but you feel the anger and the sadness throughout. An excellent supporting cast including Louis Fletcher, Danny DeVito and Christoper LLoyd.

Who knew that Nurse Ratched's last name would become a common slang word as a negative connotation for women? OK, OK, so the term "ratchet" is not derived from Nurse Ratched but it could be! Oh was she wicked. Not in an overt demonstrative manner; but in a subtle, cold, inherently evil manner. Just the stare she gave was icy and induced frowns. Louise Fletcher played that role too well, almost like she was made for it.
As good as Louise was, Jack was better. He was excellent as the not-crazy crazy ward McMurphy. It was like the psychiatric hospital needed a McMurphy to come along to expose it for its destructive policies and expose the patients to real therapy. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest was a wonderfully upsetting movie.

Whether it is now or in the future, the madhouse and the head nurse are lurking around us in various shapes. Flying over the madhouse will always make sense.
