When he fines out that he's stuck at the institution he blames everyone else for not telling him instead of owning his actions that led him there. The only character I actually felt sympathy for was Billy as he got caught between the crossfire. He was manipulated by both MacMurphy and nurse Ratched and couldn't take it anymore. Both Ratched and MacMurphy had a hand in his mental downward spiral. Does that mean MacMurphy deserved to be labotomized? Probably not but was it Nurse Ratched's Action's or his own that led to his fate? I'd say more so his own.

Louise hated playing the role of nurse ratched because it was so contrary to her true nature. This is Nicholson's film, never Fletcher's. She has limited screen time and plays a supporting character not main. I found her tedious and the AA win for Fletcher a puzzle. McMurphy beats Ratched at every turn until the powers that be basically kill him because the patients love him and follow him. They cannot beat him otherwise because it's his game, and he's an expert. So the film shows us the horror of that kind of power: and not Ratched, rather, the system she belongs to. But there is a win against them. It is Chief, who rescues him, outwits them all, and wins both respect and freedom. It's finally his story and with his flight the hope McMurphy represents. Ratched lost.
