Ah, Mulan films. Made for the same reason today as it was back in 1939. Everyone's so pissed about Shang, Mushu, the songs, etc. getting removed when y'all don't get that they're trying to make it more realistic, not as in realistic to the real world but more realistic to Chinese culture and honoring it. If you didn't know, China did NOT like the Disney Mulan animation as it looked like a parody of their ballad. The only song they liked was Reflection, that's why that's the only melody that STAYS. In the original balled, there was no Shang or Mushu, so it doesn't matter if they're there. Mushu was replaced by a phoenix because in ancient Chinese culture, there is no tiny sassy dragon. They do have phoenixes that were honored as guardians in ancient China which represented immortality, thus it makes more sense to have them.
