A colony that would thrive and eventually evolve beyond human. Thus Earth is of little importance, and may have indeed died. These colonists, and the generations that followed, would have been told the story of a great man (Cooper) who saved them from extinction. With the ability to manipulate space-time, they would pay homage to their hero God by helping him in the past so he may fulfill the mission most important to him, to once again see his daughter. Plan B worked beautifully. But the 5D humans, having the power to bend space-time, decided there's no reason why Plan A had to fail. Or. Earth was never doomed to die. In this scenario Cooper and co. still venture through time and space. except that it didn't matter in the long run. Earth would survive through sheer luck and poor predictions of the magnitude of the blight. But only with enough nourishment to keep a small pocket of humanity from becoming extinct. It is the closest to extinction we have ever been and even countless generations later the impact of this event would no doubt place deep, emotional scars on the descendants. Our technology (for a time) would equate to that of the stone age. It would send human evolution back 500-1000 year. Untold years later the survivors evolve to the 5th dimension and attempt to circumvent the extinction level event and it's impact on the future of humanity. So, humanity survived. but it could have survived better! Or. The entire thing is a simulation. A simulated universe, with simulated constants and variables. It could be that the 5D humans are programmers. They live in the bulk universe, while we live in their elaborate simulated universe. The events depicted on film is the result of a block of code containing an (unintentional) infinite loop. Brace yourself, this might get a little geeky: Imagine they instantiate a human object named Cooper in a function/method used to populate the simulated Earth. During one iteration while the programmers were testing different techniques to correct the code, accidentally sent the Cooper object outside the scope of the local function/method and into the main body of the program represented by the tesseract. He now sees the true scope of the program and has access to areas normally restricted, but only in a limited sense because he isn't supposed to be there. Think of the singularity in a black hole as a kind of return statement that sends object values to the beginning of it's main story (main body of code. The Cooper object has it's values returned the main body (beginning of film) but the actual object still remains trapped in the block, only it's value was passed. What would that look like if we represented it in 4 dimensions? Probably something like a ghost, because it wouldn't really be Cooper, it would just be his return value. Leonard Susskind hypothesized that objects passing through a black hole, in a sense, split at the firewall. The outside observer thinks the object was simply erased from the universe because no information can be exchanged due to the speed of light, but the information pertaining to that object still exists. This duality is manifesting in 2 distinctly different Coopers, one that is physical, and one that only exists as information. Cooper is doomed to remain locked in the erroneous code block until the higher level programmer solves his own algorithmic problem (represented by the gravity equation. You have to imagine this loop running through many iterations before the code would be configured in such a way as to send the Cooper object outside the localities of the method in which it's created. The 5D beings manipulate the code, testing all possibilities, just like Murph's name. Heck, there could even be 6D beings programming the 5D beings, programming the 4D beings (us) programming the 3D beings (working 3D models with applied textures) programming the 2D beings (cartoons, drawings, animation. As you can see, at each level the working objects believe themselves to be real with no way to access knowledge of the the greater workings a level above. But just as we can manipulate 2D or 3D objects, a 5th dimensional being would have the ability to manipulate all dimensions beneath it.
