Obviously you must watch the Star Wars Trilogy (and I am of course referring to the original Star Wars Trilogy since we are talking about Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back right here) in order to fully appreciate how great the movies are and to understand that story that is going in on this movie, which is the second installment of the franchise. (It was called Episode V to indicate that there would be a prequel trilogy, with the original Star Wars later re-released as "Episode IV" of the series.)
I was not a big fan of the prequel trilogy but the original movies all stack up nicely even to this day. Though dated the effects are still nice and the original releases have awesome models and puppetry that frankly are better than the CGI employed in the various re-issues. Check it out.

I am your father changed the whole trajectory of Star Wars. If they stuck to the original, it's likely Star Wars wouldn't have more than the original trilogy and it'd be a tad less interesting. It's because of that line that we got the Clone Wars series, that gave us differing views and lessons and characters to love like Ahsoka and Rex, also giving us the things that spiralled off from it and maybe Disney wouldn't have bought Star Wars, keeping us from the likes of Rebels, the Mandalorian, Galaxy's Edge, and so much more. I don't even want to IMAGINE what Star Wars would've been like had that line never have existed in the movie. It gave a whole depth to how we see Star Wars and how heroes can fall to darkness to do what they think is right. Also, greatest movie twist ever, you were right. My Dad told me when he first saw it that like literally everyone in the theater gasped. It was a HUGE moment! Basically, I am your father was the greatest line to ever exist in the history of cinema and video.

Oh my goodness. This is still one of the greatest sci-fi battle scenes of all time. Darth Vader was fully aware that Sidious was planning to kick him to the curb and for Vader's son Luke to replace him. Vader was nothing more than a pawn Sidious used to do his dirty work and then chucked away when he was not useful anymore. Both Vader and Sidious saw this as an opportunity to throw each other to the curb by turning Luke to the dark side.

This was truly and game changing film in the history of cinema. The entire Star Wars is iconic in American culture but Empire Strikes back and the benchmark of all the films. Great writing, great direction, and possibly the strongest performances by the cast, it was an amazing film with an ending that changed the standard of "twist" endings.
