"Former Minagi Kuroda Garden" Asakura City, Fukuoka Prefecture

The Zakanshiki Chisen Garden in the early 17th century (a garden where you can sit and watch from the room) was left in the villa of the Kuroda family in Asakura City, where the rich countryside of southern Fukuoka Prefecture spreads. Gardening at the same time as Katsura Imperial Villa and Nijo Castle Ninomaru Garden. A masterpiece of a medium-sized pond garden in the early Edo period. The Minagi Kuroda was a family of the Fukuoka clan that survived until the Meiji era. There are countless gardens nationwide that have a tradition of Kobori Enshu's work, and this garden is one of them. However, Kuroda Kanbei is very close to Kobori Enshu as he became the biggest backer when Kobori Enshu established Koho-an, the sub temple of Daitokuji, and it is unlikely that Kobori Enshu was involved in this garden. Or It is quite possible that some of his gardening staff, not just Kobori Enshu himself, was involved in the design of this garden. Unfortunately, the garden was renovated in the mid-18th century and now has lost much of the atmosphere of the Azuchi-Momoyama period in the late 16th century. However, the stones erected at key points and the stone bridges over the stream still fully convey the characteristics of the early Edo period in the early 17th century. At present, all the buildings in the villa have been lost, leaving only the cornerstones, leaving only the garden, which is virtually abandoned and cannot be said to be in a good state of preservation. However, if you are a garden fan, you will see Katsura Imperial Villa and Nijo Castle Ninomaru Garden overlapping the stonework of this garden. I was deeply moved.
