First,i wanna say reading the book really helps you understand what's happening, if you didn't read the book you'll have a hard time understading it.
with that out of the way... i wanna talk about the runtime,the runtime of this movie is 2 hours and 14 minutes,for any other movie it'll fly, not fot this one. at first i said i'm gonna watch this twice to understand it better,but while i'm watching it i changed my mind,because i really felt every minutes of it to the point that i felt watching a 4 hour long movie. and most of the people will ethier not finish it or get bored watching it especially the scenes in the car, so if your not a patient person you'll be one of those two,i said that just to let you know.
The acting is not great and also not Collette i'm not sure if she did the part very well or she overdid it. Jesse Plemons always do the creepy,weird charecters not too much to say about Buckley she made me feel the atmosphere that she was in which is a good thing.
the directing was one of the great things about this movie, Charlie Kaufman he did what it needs to be done and through the movie you feel his touch.
Generally this is the kind of a movie that keeps you thinking after you watch it,even for those who read the book,because the book and the movie are not completly the same.

I love his analyses of all the films, except this one. I think this one is simply Jake fantasizing. I think the script makes it all clear, almost immediately. Theres room for how to interpret some imagery, but the basic story is an old dude contemplating suicide under the guise of his personified fantasy contemplating leaving him. Escapism/fantasy kills.

I was thinking of ending the movie while watching it. I should of. There are rules to editing, created and codified by Walter Murch. The best part is that the rules are prioritized in order of importance, with the highest being emotion of the scene- the one rule you can't break, and all other rules are subservient to communicating the emotion of the scene. Personally, I absolutely loved the intentional bad cuts of I'm Thinking of Ending Things. This is a deliberate choice from Kaufman and I think not only does it add to the unsettling, uncomfortable nature of the tone of the film, but it directly relates to how the characters are experiencing the world around them through their perspective. Clearly, Kaufman did not want to address what the film is actually about, and I believe any audience member will come up with their own interpretation, but I believe the editing is rooted in the juxtaposition of the two perspectives in the film: Jessie Buckley's character, and Jesse Plemons character. Their unending conversation (both internally and externally) alongside the editing technique are messing with time to give credence to where their relationship will inevitably end up: drifting apart through physical death or boredom. I try and support this opinion of mine with the example of the topic that Jesse Plemons character brings up through a David Foster Wallace Book (A Supposedly Fun Thin I'll Never Do Again - GREAT READ BTW. Both the title and subject he interjects into the conversation give meaning to what potentially is happening to them in the story. The editing is paced in a way to give it not only a sense of irony, but to itself be ironic in how it's skipping through time in telling us the story. Super Meta, maybe, but I think it works. Fat Meth Damon in a Kaufman movie reminds me way too much of late Philip Seymour Hoffman. Basically loneliness and idealizations. Good movie. Not worth a second watch though. The picture, the mom and Liberian are really the only things on the background you might not notice at first the rest of them I don't agree with. But it was entertaining.
