まだ YET/STILL

Hi everybody. How was your day? 

And how was your morning?! I`m not a morning person but this morning my favorite new student emailed me with a question and asked me, “Are you sleep yet?” That`s a nice question to ask me because I`m not a morning person and I understood what she meant. 文法的には “Are you sleep yet?”ってかなりおかしい質問ですけどね。　｢まだ寝てますか？」って聞きたかっただろうけど英語で言うと・・・

Are you still sleeping? って聞きます。

やっぱり “yet” と “still” の使い分けは難しいですね？でも、簡単に説明しますのでこれから正しく使えるでしょう・・・。

①否定文の場合は “yet” + 現在完了形を使いましょう：

主語 haven`t/hasn`t 過去分詞 yet For 

▼example:

・I haven`t eaten lunch yet. (ランチまだ食べてない。)

・She hasn`t called yet. (彼女はまだ電話してない。)

②肯定文の場合は “still” + 現在進行形を使いましょう。 

▼For example:

・I`m still writing this blog. (このブログをまだ書いています。)

・Are you still sleeping. (まだ寝てますか？)

あと、「まだ + 形容詞/名詞です・ですか」って言いたい時はこのパターンを使いましょう：

主語 + be動詞 + still 名詞/形容詞 For 

▼example… 

I am still single. (私はまだ独身です。)
