All of the comedic relief, amazing characters, and great moments from the first movie are squandered in an overly-serious narrative with comedy that falls flat. They got rid of Mushu, who did most of the comic relief in the animation, and leave it up to awkward moments that don't mesh well with the whole "epic" aesthetic they have going on. It seems like they were confused whether this would be Mulan, or this would be a Chinese Epic, as they introduce strange new concepts like "chi, which completely makes Mulan feel overpowered at times and doesn't ground her like the animation did. Instead of Mulan being a powerful and intelligent woman, which they showed through her outsmarting everyone, this movie shows her using her "Chi" more often then not, leaning on straight power more than intellect, which definitely was a turn off. I had high hopes, but Disney keeps squandering these opportunities to turn their great animations into outstanding movies. Disney definitely needs to stop producing live action adaptations and start releasing some stellar animated projects like "Moana...
