Alexandra Daddario has always managed to be the part written. Sadly for this unmemorable dull experience, her nuances couldn't carry the emptiness around her along for the ride. Maybe it was a passion project from her love of the book... I hope so. She's been very selective of good roles since escaping the horror stereotype most young, pretty actresses get stuck in.
Oh right yes the film. like flicking through a dull coffee table book of artsy photographs of trashcans and alleyways and trains. Sadly there were words.

Alexandra Daddario gives one of the best performances of 2020. She stars as Margaret, an American in Tokyo, who lives as a flight attendant instructor by day, and a submissive broken sex-addict for random strangers to enjoy by night. It is moody and atmospheric. Shot beautifully and acted impeccably. It is an exercise in blistering cold cynicism, with a smattering of hope and romance. Look... I can understand having to work because we all have to in order to substain to our everyday need. human beings, we also have pride, we can feel shame, we can feel when something is not right.
How this was greenlit and most important of all MADE SERIOUSLY is absolutely baffling. Alexandra Daddario is actually a good actress who can turn on dramatic scenes just as well as comedic. The fact that she settled to make mess of a "movie" by free-will is unbelievable. The story is extremely cliché, if you have a semblance of knowledge of film you can pretty much call what's gonna happen every single scene. The editing was bizarre as well; cutting to reaction shots is normal in a conversation between two people, but you usually want a cut to be motivated, not in the middle of a word.
Skip this one folks, especially if you're a fan of Alexandra Daddario.
