Is it a good movie?
Yes.
Is it Nolan's best?
No.
Is it the best sci-fi movie?
No.
Is it the next 2001?
Balls.
There are three qualities of every Nolan film :
1)Its awesome
2)I'd gladly watch it over and over again
3)It's overrated.
Interstellar manages to stay true to these points. It can certainly be said to be one of the best films of 2014 and was definitely worth the time spent on seeing this picture. The plot was good, the casting was perfect and then (as always with Nolan) there was the suspense ending which really blew my did i use that as my title? That's probably one of the best quotes I've heard in my cinematography is mind-blowing and forms a perfect combination with Zimmer's BGM.
I don't want to lay all the plot points on the table so this is a small sically the Earth is ravaged by a disease called Blight which cause the death of crops at an exponential rate such that humans will soon go (McConaughy) is a former pilot and now farmer and a father of accidentally stumbles upon NASA who have discovered a wormhole which could lead to other planets that could possibly sustain Cooper is recruited to lead a team to find a new planet where life can continue.
After I saw the movie most people were I met were comparing this movie to Kubrick's 2001.I found that really annoying because Kubrick's work is very different from this film. 2001 is more of a visual experience. It is more of an artwork than a movie. The main reason where Nolan wins over the masses is the presence of emotions and feelings which are hardly present in 2001. Most of us want films which can take our feelings and play with it that at the end of the movie we are left crying or happy. Well,let me say that this film does play with our emotions but it also leaves us with something to reflect upon. Some curiosity of the unknown that our human species will always have about intelligent life elsewhere in the universe.
Many of my friends told me that they found really hard to understand the ending but somehow i feel different. I'm not saying that the ending was not complex but it is not so difficult to understand if you have at last a basic idea of space and time. Coming back to the movie, the performances of all the actors were exceptional. McConaughy nails it with an enthralling performance which may see him win the Oscar for consecutive ckenzie Foy really impresses and shows amazing other actors carried out their roles to perfection but these two deserve special mention. TARS, a bot with a comic sense of humor provides enough comedy required for this epic space lots of awesome quotes and punchy dialogues which will have the audience applauding uncontrollably(Like I said, we are slave to our emotions and Nolan is the master. At various points in the film I was Happy,sad,curious,tense,relieved,surprised and a lot of other emotions that cant be described on paper.
This isn't Nolan's best either if you compare it with The Dark Knight or Inception. Although people argue that Interstellar got a lot wrong about scientific theories,at the end of the day isn't that what sci-fi is all about?
