The point of this scene is that these prisoners were not just deprived of their freedoms. Their souls were eternally damned and could not be restored but by a brief glimpse of ethereal beauty and divine transcendence, and thus the prison is additionally indicted for Satanic torture and bestiality far more than the prisoners.

Maybe in some parts it can be considered rude for the audience because contains some not-explicit sexual content.
This movie has a really good plot and it's developed on a prison showing us how the people lives in there, the problems and the multiple troubles that they have to solve. It's so interesting how a group of people can manage to get things even in the prison. This movie even make us feel powerless when we watch the cases of injustice that the prisoners live, especially Andy's situation.
With this movie we can know the "power" of the prison, that can made a person going crazy by feeling that place like his home. Something that Red calls "institutionalization" and everyone who spend a lot of time in prison suffer this kind of disorder.
Finally I have to say that I really recommend this movie to anyone who doesn't watch it already.
