This film has made massive headlines leading up to it's release for controversies surrounding its release date (to avoid competition with another more recent film) and casting choices (in order to acquire a wider audience). These decisions have been controversial in that they have costed the film it's authenticity, but have also helped it to become a success. This article will analyze how these decisions worked out for the film in the end.One of the most obvious differences between this movie and its source material (the comic books) is how it handles character development. The popular comic series follows several different characters who are involved in complex situations; situations which often only become clear halfway through the book (for example, there is a hermit living in the forest who is actually actually one of India's greatest warriors, or Raakhal). The movie on the other hand simplifies this. In the comic, the character Mihir is a plump and nerdy child who has no friends because everyone thinks he's a freak. He is bullied by his cook master Masterji, and is ridiculed by Masterji's sons as well as his friends. However, after receiving a magic amulet from an old man in the cook master's yard, Mihir becomes a real hero, defeating many villains and saving children from their various predicaments.In the movie however, Mihir is a successful businessman with a wife and a child whom he cares for deeply. The bullying he experienced was never mentioned so it is unclear whether he ever had a hard life. He was played by Shah Rukh Khan, a good choice because audiences all know him as a successful actor who is held in very high regard. The film takes a similar approach with the characters of Raakhal and Rishta, villains from the comics who are removed from the film entirely. In an interview, director Rohit Shetty revealed that these characters were changed to avoid controversy and because they would have been too much too soon for the audience.In another scene from the comics, one of Mihir's friends named Ravi is kidnapped by Raakhal and Mihir must rescue him. Mihir is nearly killed while doing so, but he manages to escape and save the day. Moreover, while the rescue of Ravi is not shown in the movie, there was another scene that was changed in which he helps his friend Shomu get over his fears. He does this by climbing up on the tall school building (he was too scared) and shouting down to him (he was too shy). These scenes would have made Mihir look more like a real hero who saves lives, but they were cut out of the film because they might have been considered to be a little too much.The last example for this section involves a character named Shakti who appears towards the end of the film.
