A book that is considered the most authoritative guide of all Hindu scriptures and has been influential throughout India and Nepal for thousands of years. The title means "laws (dharma) of human conduct (smriti). This is the most widely read book among Hindus. A large volume on mythology also exists in this book.Vedas can be divided into four main parts: Rigveda, Samaveda , Yajurveda and Atharvaveda . The first two are the primary sources of knowledge of the Rigveda. The Rig-Veda belongs to the Samhita era. It contains 1,017 hymns divided into ten books, composed by 10 poets over a period of several centuries. Each of these books is known as a Mandal. No copy of these original texts survive today, however more than 75 manuscripts have survived, which are all quite different from each other, though they share many ideas with each other. Hence it is accepted that the Vedas had been memorized since ancient times by scholars and students for generations before they were written down.
