This is the second film produced in India in 3D and it paved way for stereoscopic cinema in India. The film itself was not a commercial success but at the same time broke all existing records of ticket sales in South Indian cinema and establishing 3D film as one of the modes of motion picture projecting in India. The movie is also credited with popularizing 3D cinema to an extent that it became the norm for mainstream movies-watching for decades to come. Avuluri Gangaraju (Akkineni Nageswara Rao) loses his eyesight in an accident and he is unable to do any work. He was a nice person and had many friends. Seetha (Kanchana) and Padma (Tirupathi Reddy) are his daughters, whose ornaments get stolen when they visit a temple. Avuluri dies of frustration when he hears the news. Seetha's marriage gets called off because of this incident. Bheemeswara Rao (Ramana Reddy), who is the chief minister, visits the village to launch a program in the village for making agriculture more profitable and meets with Seetha and Padma. He is impressed with Seetha's character and hard-working nature. He also gets impressed with her beauty and wants to marry her. He requests his friend Sastry to establish the marriage with Seetha, which he reluctantly agrees.The minister has a son Mahendra, who is an alcoholic. Mahendra loves Padma like anything and she also returns his love like anything. But Padma's marriage gets fixed with another because of their financial condition. They are not in favor of this match. Bheemeswara Rao comes to know that Padma loves Mahendra. He is shocked when he sees Mahendra drunk in one of his meetings. The minister tries to know the cause of this, but he does not find anything.Bheemeswara Rao starts constructing a bungalow for Padma and Seetha at the place where their ornaments get stolen (popularly known as 'Mahalakshmi' temple). But Mahendra's bro, Shankar (Chittor V. Nagaiah) keeps making trouble about it by creating obstacles like poor people living there and throwing garbage, which creates disruptions in the work progress. When Mahendra's mother is about to visit the house, he requests his brother to make sure that no one is there in the house. Shankar uses this opportunity. He makes sure that everyone is away from the house and throws a thief into the place. Seetha comes there and she does not know that a thief has come with her. The thief snatches her ornaments and runs away. When she is running after him, a police van is nearby and she runs into the van not knowing anything else. She gets arrested for theft along with two people who were also trying to escape from the police van.
