Chrome downloads photos as .jfif instead of .jpg

hello everyone, i have a problem with my chromium based browsers such as Chrome and Brave downloading all JPEG image files as JFIF and significantly lowers the res for some reason. this just started randomly. help would be greatly appreciated.
