シャーロック・ホームズの名言について

ホームズはいろいろな作品で名言を吐いています。

ここでは推理に関する名言を英語で紹介します。

次の３つの英文は、表現は違いますが、よく似ているところもあります。

意味は①～③ともほぼ同じ意味です。

①の英文を訳すると、「私の公理の一つなのだが、不可能なものを除いた時、残った物がいかにあり得そうもないものであっても、それが真実である」となります。

①"It is an old maxim of mine that when you have excluded the impossible, whatever

remains, however improbable, must be the truth.

②We must fall back upon the old axiom that when all other contingencies fail,
