The Darkness Within, the Darkness Without continues the story of Roystone, a small seaside town in the North of England and its struggle for survival. After the death of her husband, Maggie Granger, a young lawyer, is rejected by her family because of her suddenly acquired psychic ability and finds herself completely alone in the world.

The Darkness Within is definitely the most ominous of the series. The male antagonist Darkrip is a damaged being who always tries to do the right thing but is constantly in the shadow of who his father is.
