I really enjoy historical books by Beverly Jenkins, and I usually enjoy this narrator. However, I have noticed that her voice seems a bit mature for some of the characters. I thought Regan was in her late 20's to early 30's but the narrator made her seem much older. Tempest is book three in Jenkins’ Old West series (something that I wish I took the time to find out before I read the book). Set, of course, in the old west, it tells the story of Regan Carmichael, a young, wealthy mail order bride, and her husband, Dr. Colton Lee, a widower with a young daughter. Genre: Historical: American, Romance. Theme: Marriage of Convenience. Archetype: Diverse Protagonists, Single Parent. Tempest by Beverly Jenkins is a mail order bride historical romance that’s light on internal conflict but heavy on awesome heroines and world-building. If you want a romance that doesn’t have a ton of emotional angst, but does have a heroine who accidentally (kind of) shoots her intended the first time she meets him, this is all your catnip. Beverly Jenkins is the recipient of the Michigan Author Award by the Michigan Library.
