"1917" is a poignant film which tells a story inspired by real facts during the First World War. That makes the film more real and more sensational. I was impressed by the way that the main actors play. It was like we were in the film, we were with the characters and we could feel their feelings, their stress. I appreciated the film very much. I want to thank Sam Mendes for directing and writing the script. It gave us the impression that the film was shot in one shot thanks to the sequence plan. It totally immersed us in the atmosphere of the First World War.
Furthermore, the landscape of death and desolation puts forward the butchery of the war. I like the goal of the film. The issue of saving lives is more important than the main characters, hence the title of the film "1917" highlights the impressive number of soldiers who fought in the war.
I think everyone should see the film. It reinforces our knowledge about the war. We are completely in the action, we want the mission to be accomplished.
This a great film! Take time for yourself and go watch the amazing film and enjoy.
Just think what would have happened if he forgets the message after reaching there. This movie was so much more than just a war movie. I'm currently watching a WW2 documentary on Netflix, and just watched the episode of midway battle when the trailer came out. As said, it was one hell of a fight so the movie must be good. The part where he says San Francisco and Los Angeles will burn. LOL, so much for the upside. This is the first war movie that caught me in the feels. The one camera style adds to the intensity of the action. I feel they captured how horrific WW1 was for people perfectly. Those two hours flew by.

Harrowing tale of war, despair and determination told in a masterful way. Must watch for all the fans of the genre. I've never looked up behind the scenes footage ever in my life, but this movie made me so curious. such a memorable movie. Screen rant at a kids magic show: You know, he isnt really pulling that coin from behind your ear. You didnt know that. What really struck me was when he stepped out in front of the burning building - I assume it's a church since it's in a large square? The fountain silhouetted against the flames is like a cross. Maybe driving home the point that this war reduced God to ruins and replaced it with industrial scale killing and chaos.
When you mentioned the date 6 April 1917 as significant, I had thought of the commencement of the Battle of Vimy Ridge which was three days later on the 9th of April. For those who arent up on their WW1 history, this was the battle that finally pushed the Germans off the high ground on the Arras sector by the Canadian Corps. Historians have looked at it as the turning point on the Western Front from which the Germans never recovered, henceforth becoming the “beginning of the end” for the Kaisers Forces. I saw the movie the other day, and I didnt even think of it as the day the US declared war. Actually, that makes more sense. I must say that as an amateur historian (Im self taught through reading a lot about history, not formally educated on the topic) that I was suitably impressed with the attention to detail and technical accuracy of the film. Many times in WW1 films, you see some Lee Enfield Mk III and III* models which were used by British and Commonwealth troops which they used, however interspersed among the soldiers you find some Mk 4s (WW2 vintage) and some American Springfield 1903s because of their superior numbers and availability to the movie makers. All of the rifles I saw were Mk IIIs (and Mauser K98s for the Germans of course. The uniforms were accurate as were the aircraft as well. I only noticed a couple of times where people were referred to by the wrong rank (Lance Corporal referred to as “Corporal”) but that was it. Obviously, they must have hired a good technical advisor to have that degree of attention to detail. I had made a personal pet project of mine to study the Great War in detail. I had recently researched the fate of my Great-Grandfather who was Missing in Action on the 3rd of May 1917 and has no known grave. I had crawled around many of the WW1 battlefields retracing his footsteps, and finding the cemetery where he may be buried under a headstone marked “A Soldier of the Great War” of which there are many. Its unfortunate that many people know so little about the “War to end all wars” and how it shaped our world today. It seems to be a forgotten chapter.
An interesting thing that I noticed in 1917- During the part in the beginning when Schofield is climbing over the sandbags, another soldier told him he was standing on their Sergeant (I believe. Just watched it like 5 munites ago, it's a nice movie and the trailer is just a little fraction of the movie. It is just an emotional drama, where a brother tried to find his brother but gets killed in action. Then, his friend carry forward the duty to deliver the message to the soldiers. I watched it because it has high rating but it didn't impress me. May be it is good for awards but not for entertainment.
If they never use those outside sets again, I hope they turn it into a airsoft felid. Imagine the ww1 airsoft guns and how fun that would be. Is that Rob Stark. I was in total awe during this scene. I wanna watch this movie until... Nick & Darren. Like, dduhh. At first I was really disappointed with the ending having a neutral ending and that the movie wasn't so much of a tear jerker but then again the movie has a happy ending, but with a sense of hollowness, like there's something missing from it, which makes it kinda remarkable. The movie was amazing, so fun to watch and so freaking exciting. This part of the movie gave me chills just bunch of mixed up emotions, I didn't know what to feel. To me this was the best scene I have seen in a long time. From the score to the cinematography, this is master class film making.

Im only saying it because it sounded like you were insinuating that things like this arent taught. 5:00 I loved this moment because neither one of them were sure if the other was friend or foe, then the bastard started shooting and Scho started running. And Sam Mendez “Leman Trilogy”. Show his talents in the Theater also. They stole the technology from the Maury show's camera crew. I was disappointed in this movie as the adventure was literally a 10 minute drive away. 3:05 did Schofield mean to fall over for the movie or was it a accident.
