Nvidia shield cant add downloaded app to home scteen

Please give an option to opt out. You'll still have plenty of folks who don't care enough to go hunting down the settings. This is a Google product, but Nvidia, you need to step up and switch or roll your own. Last week there were no ads and a clean UI, this week there are unwanted ads and an ugly cluttered UI. Forcing unwanted non child friendly ads cluttering the UI is completely unacceptable.

If Nvidia wants to add adds to a previously clean UI and one of its selling points, it should be an optional opt in, and an easy one button opt out. This new forced ads interface is not how the Shield TV was sold. These unwanted forced ads must be easily disabled. This has got me back to an ad-free home screen for now at least. If you need the google play store then disabling updates might be enough for you. Was about to buy another 2x Nvidia shields to replace my Fire Sticks.

Think I'll just stick with the Fire Sticks as they are all bloated with Adware now anyway. The Nvidia Shield with Nvidia Games with barely any decent games and Android TV with full page adverts for services I never use and no ability to disable, makes the 4K fire stick at a quarter of the price an absolute steal.

Who the hell would buy an Nvidia shield anymore? It makes the Nvidia Shield financial unviable from a gamers position and obsolete at that price point.

It's okay. Finland too. I am so angry right now. I used to love the nvidia shield, now I am outraged with it. Even if it isn't NVidia's software, they could've stuck to the old home screen. Can't even begin to describe how mad I am. I couldn't care less! It's just like wallpaper, I know it's there but I don't even look at it! Is it just the principle that they put advertising there? So now my Shield is infested with ads on the home screen too and I'm seriously considering getting rid of it.

Come on Nvidia, I paid serious money for this so I don't feel like watching ads for services I don't care for. Back to my trusty Pi I suppose I'm aware of the workarounds but I don't want a workaround, I want the ads to be removed altogether.

Shortcuts will only show on the homescreen if they are compatible,maybe this is the problem with the one not showing?

If that is the issue then you can use something like tv app repo from the playstore to make the shortcut for you.

Dare One inquire as to which Apps your trying to add? Sure Chrom Browser will work well enough with your Gamepad as a means of input, and virtual mouse. Everything else will remain hidden. Thankfully better minds than mine have come up with a decent work'round for this. It's called "Sideload Launcher", and you can find in in your local PlayStore. Opening that App from the Homescreen will reveal all of the hidden 'Executables' on your Device.
