This is why a lot of Nikon friends are sad about the shutter shock issue and the cutting of features from their beloved D5xxx bodies. Nikon has to do something wholeheartedly to D5xxx series. Mere cosmetic changes and badge change of model no.

Hope to find 4k video, better live view atleast in their next model. I shoot with the D5xxx series for 7 years before moving onto mft This makes creating shots with Bokeh a lot more difficult. Either you use an extremely fast lens are there good ones? Great wifi solution, works with no app if needed but then it's just for transferring files, which is awesome as well , app lets you do all kind of shooting modes, not as comprehensive as using the camera UI, but good enough to be useful on many ocasions.

One time I took picture of some strangers and immediately gave them the file for use, on the spot. On a camera which is almost 2. It was also the most basic offering from Olympus If to quote the president, SAD. I'm a professional Canon ex-Nikon, ex-Sony user, but my comments are based purely on the premise that I want Nikon to provide a line-up of cameras that will safeguard Nikon's future, and at the same time provide the necessary competition to spur Canon, Sony and Pentax to improve their own products.

I see the within its market niche as an extremely capable but aesthetically unattractive camera. Consider that most if not all prospective purchasers will see it as their first DSLR. As a step up from a mobile phone or a small mirrorless, the myriad of knobs, dials and levers on is likely to appear daunting to many novices.

IMHO it desperately needs restyling, with the emphasis on simplicity. The top plate e. All of the primary functions exp mode, drive mode, ISO etc could be accessed instantly using a single button that cycled through these functions. So much simpler. Not trying to get into silly Canon is better than Nikon stuff, but most recent Canon cameras have a small programmable button right next to the shutter release. The button called Mfn can be set to cycle through ISO, exp comp, flash comp, drive, WB and AF options, and is an extremely quick, simple and convenient way to change settings while the camera is at the eye.

Peter - haha, I've just had a look at some pictures of the F70 and I see what you mean. What a weird camera! Definitely one for throwback Thursday, even if it was a film camera! Entoman, in DX that's the and the Lower DX models come with more design compromises. Real entry level which Nikon should scrap imho is probably used in P Jpeg mode only, so who cares? Mike - I understand why you think entry level Nikons should be scrapped, and that seems to be the approach that they will adopt, but I think it would be a big mistake.

IMHO they really have only two choices:. Entoman, I just think that in this rapidly evolving marketplace a brand can't be all things to all consumers. Nikon is making a choice, and it's a difficult one. We'll see how it pans out.

Yep, I hope they can pull through, it would be really sad to see such a great company disappear, but it happened to Rollei, Kodak, Minolta etc so it is a possibility. A buy out or takeover remains a distinct possibility too. I wouldn't like to see Nikon end up as a subsidary of Sony, Panasonic or any of the other giants. We need independence, diversity and competition to keep DSLRs alive. I think it would be nice if they kept the D for novice users, maybe adding an articulating touchscreen.

The D can be move up slightly into a compact enthusiast camera by adding a second dial, a better AF module, and AF fine tune Sort of a mini D with some more differentiation, but no top LCD.

It would give Nikon users a compact enthusiast option, and give an alternative to those looking at mirrorless systems. The 3 biggies: ISO, aperture and speed are dead easy to adjust, and the "i Button" is there for quick access to the most-used settings. Having lots of functions to get acquainted with, and the knobs and levers to do it with, is what you expect on any camera.

You seem to assume that people have gotten dumber or lazier than when you were a camera novice: classic "back in my day"-type thinking, no? My main gripe is the unreliable SnapBridge, which needs to be more robust. Nikon should perhaps give the users the ability to develop apps, by making it open source instead. This may make SnapBridge apps more useful than this shy example of a great development. GPS comes from the "always-on low energy Bluetooth mobile connection".. So why drain the battery and increase the price and size and weight for that!

Regardless of the Nikon line-up for the future.. This camera is a small gem, and doesn't deserve this mediocre review that sounds like somebody wrote, while on the train, on the way back home, on a Friday afternoon, before the deadline to submission.

I know many people who prefer the D5xxx line to more expensive cameras or Mirrorless cameras. I still use the D as my main camera, but I don't shy from using the reliable D, with its connectivity to the web on the go.

You allways get 2 controle dials, full customisation of allmost all buttons, bright capable viewfinders iso those dim ovf's that are totally useless in many indoor and evening photography situations etc. Did you know the latest Sony is A? Also much much better than this piece of cr p. But I guess Canon and Nikon can still get away with it producing this inferior stuff, since many buyers just copy the neighbour or think they can also make beautiful pics if they just use a DSLR.

People just need to get their heads out of their And some people might not be happy with the severe drop in image quality and AF tracking performance. Deliverator "And some people might not be happy with the severe drop in image quality and AF tracking performance.

You are kidding right. The G80 is a much, much better deal imo. Weatherproof and much better build, IQ is nearly the same, tracking is on par as well. Yep the D5xxx series Nikons are good solid products. Having owned a D I can vouch first hand for their quality.

For video they might be better choices but not for stills. I've been a keen reader of this site for around 5 years and I still can't understand why both the editorial staff and many of the readership insist that mirrorless is an inevitable direction which photography must take.

All prices from Amazon. IQ is not nearly the same. The Nikon is at least a stop better in all situations, and has far better acuity and AF in everything but video.

AND the Nikon is hardly any bigger. It is you who is kidding, I hope. Deliverator "It is you who is kidding, I hope. Weathersealing, construction and lenses for the system would even be worth the price difference in Canada if I would reside there.

But as it is, here in Europe there is no price difference to speak off. And as a working professional I can tell you the IQ difference isn't an issue for the majority of magazines and newspaper agencies. And when you are organising an exposition your visitors won't be critisizing the "noise" in print either. Been there, done that, and still no change in that.

This is only an issue amongst amateurs. For Photographers that are working in specific area, those professionals certainly don't own a D for the work ;-. Now you add qualifications. Thank you for back-pedalling. It all depends how big you print and in what light you shoot, but you knew that. All things being equal, the difference between m43 and APS-C is about a stop. If you don't need that stop, great. If you do, you do. I believe that beginners shooting with slow kit zooms tend to need that stop, and more.

First, you said the price difference was small. It wasn't. You said I was lying. I wasn't. NOW you're saying the other features are worth the price difference. Funny you should say that, because I think the price difference is worth it to move up to a D, where you gain all of those features and better AF, access to legacy lenses, etc.

Funny how the 'spend more' game works, isn't it? But you're disparaging other systems, and questioning why others would buy them, to, what end exactly? To make you feel better about your choice? Deliverator, I, for one, never said you were lying, you push that on me now. And I am not backpedalling either. But formost I said IQ is "nearly the same". Beginners don't print large either so it's a none discussion, a faster and better lens would suit them better in order to stop motion and have more details all over the frame than the supposedly little bit worse noise.

The real difference comes with even bigger sensors like 35mm or MF , 6x6 etc or FF 6x9 and bigger!!! No GPS? I would prefer to get the old D then. Why does Nikon put both GPS and Wi-Fi in their waterproof point-and-shoot, but not this camera, when they used to put both in the D? The optional external GPS apparently sucks. Not saying you don't have a point -- if it's cheap enough to stick in a Coolpix, it should be cheap enough to stick in a D5xxx. Dant Gwyrdd Yeah you sound older than me and I'm in the late fifties.

I guess change is hard for you. You do know it's easier to strip the GPS info from Exif, as opposed to adding it. And normally you can choose to have it on or off in camera, so no worries. I still don't quite get how the whole world knowing my exact GPS coordinates at the time I took the picture helps Dant Gwyrdd, it doesn't help taking pictures. It's just another bragging point and useless feature to The typical, "my camera has GPS and yours doesn't", crap. Only gearheads care about this.

It would be just nice that Nikon just put a second command dial and a pentaprism viewfinder on their 3xxx and 5xxx series.

That is what has always rebuked me on the entry-level models and I personally think that if Pentax can do it, why can't Nikon. But I hate the fact that on the Nikon entry level line the controls just suck. Nikon used to put twin command-dials and pentaprism viewfinders on their upper entry-level segment DDD90 , I wonder why they stopped. D is not entry level. I compared the D to the Pentax K, which are in the same market segment, and the Pentax beats the crap out of the Nikon in what concerns ergonomics.

The D90 was enthusiast-level, not entry-level. It was succeeded by the D The D didn't really have any predecessor in Nikon's line-up.

I thought enthusiast level cameras were sealed, the D90 is not. And also the D90 is the successor to the D80, which in turn is the successor to the D70s, which was definitely Nikon's entry-level camera at the time it came out.. Anyhow, my point is that it would improve ergonomics drastically to add these two features e. D70s was regarded entry-level only because at that time, there were fewer models. It would be regarded as a mid-range model now. The D60 was a true entry-level model, and it was followed by the D Anyway, regardless of how we see the position of these models in the line-up, I agree with the point that those two features should be added to the D5xxx line.

Open the web browser on the computer to the camera's web server; select X number of files; click "download" or drag. Classic leading IQ? And the canon 80D was lagging in IQ 1 year ago! And they both score about equal in the 3 IQ bars. Something is not right. I'm amazed that many experienced editors still cannot comprehend the difference between "its" and "it's". Just bizarre. Canon 70D shows it too. Pentax, Olympus, Panasonic and Fuji as well as higher-end Nikon's don't show it.

Is it the lens used? That's a camera I would buy. Almost exactly like the KP, but I would hope with a slightly higher build quality. Metal body and dials instead of plastic.

Like with the D, make a metal body and you end up with pretty much the same price-point as FF now. Even the D isn't as "pure" as the D was in that regard, it just costs too much. Most won't go the APS route who are going to spend that kind of money. It would have to offer something better than the Df does. Or the Df's successor, beyond smaller lenses which aren't as good as FX lenses. The question is, what do you offer in it to make it attractive?

Smaller size? More or fewer megapixels? I specifically bought the D because it is light and small : it is those damn lenses that are too big : I wish NIkon will make a 24mm pancake lens..

It's hard to knock them in terms of bang for buck otherwise, but these autofocus issues are likely to be fairly crucial for alot of everyday users well, me anyway! Just seen the bit in the conclusion about live view and video autofocus being improved with AF-P lenses but 'not in the same league' as viewfinder performance - so I guess that's a no.

Which won't happen until they release a mirrorless camera. It'll be interesting to see if they use separate sensors for mirrorless and DSLR, too.

Interesting to see how this market develops anyway - there are so many aspects you could consider when buying a camera..

Splits each pixel in 2, uses those to AF and display the Live View feed, then uses both sides simultaneously to take the pic.

But they still have a ways to go. It's funny how the benchmark for a good sensor has been lately the ability to underexpose the image by 5 stops. Because DXO ratings are the only reliable true ranking. All other rankings are subjective and subject to errors and personal opinion.

DXO is the only reliable rating from an engineering standpoint I know of. People who don't like DXO simply hate it when the rating doesn't jive with their opinions or is unfavorable toward their favorite brand.

Azathothh is a good example. It is based on the performance of a sensor at all available ISO settings within the to range as well as the sensor's resolving power across this range. The score is indicative of a camera's image quality across a wide range of real-world conditions Measurements are based on raw files. Putting the D5 that high instantly invalidates their scoring methodology. Just because you can crank it up to millions of ISO doesn't mean anything else has improved, just the programming, which can read into 7 digits now.

Well, I guess they don't value dynamic range at base ISO as much as you do. They measure it across all ISOs up to 25,, as they do all other parameters.

By what standards? Did ever heard a pro agreeing with that? What planet do you live? The lenses benchmark are even worse. Engineering standpoint? I'm an engineer myself and i say that anyone can implement some tests, spew some numbers at the end and make everyone agree with you by making gibberish claims. But having results that reflect reality are a completely different thing.

Deliverator Senscore is the new kid on the block and I'm suspicious of their methods since they are vague as to how they get their results. Regardless DXO has been around for years and their methods are recognized as reliable by a large number of photographers and organizations. Azathothh Well if you're an engineer then maybe you should be specific about what in their testing methods and conclusions do you find lacking.

At least DXO shows their results and graphs that allow you to accurately compare. They are also very transparent in their testing methods.

I'm just pointing out there is more to sensor performance than dynamic range at base ISO, which is what everyone on this board seems to constantly chirp about. To think Nikon simply blew it on their flagship sensor, rather than aiming for different performance tradeoffs is just silly. Canon users didn't like lots of dynamic range at low ISO, either, until the current generation of sensors arrived.

Here's another site that measures sensors, with tons of data beyond just DR:. So much more flexibility in post, and I was able to keep pics looking more realistic instead of having white skies and white blotches on random things cars, curbs, people's faces, etc. Further Nikons have improved dynamic range even more. The problem is when Nikon strays from Sony sensors. They used Toshiba in the D, and it was a nightmare. Banding in the shadows from lifting only 3 stops. The D4 was their best attempt at copying Sony with their own sensor.

Not to mention by the highest MP FF cameras out there:. The only reasons to use low MP are to either increase IQ or reduce the strain on the buffer. From what people are calculating, 20MP is about the limit for fast burst shooting in Nikon's current processor generation. To go higher requires Nikon moving to a new processor generation, and Nikon's in a pretty rough situation at the moment. Exposed for the sky, without clipping, lifted shadows. No banding, no noise.

Shot with the ancient Canon 5D the very first one. A rubbish sensor, according to BXOMark. No ND filters on those photos. The below shot was taken during an outdoor ceremony in direct sunlight. I was able to push the shadows enough to reveal the full facial expressions while keeping it looking natural, as if there was a large reflector on the left side of the frame like a white wall. I think it would be more accurate to say better than the more extreme far better.

Hyperbole tends to give the wrong impression. I have had every D5xxx since the D, and though I have many much more expensive cameras now, some of my best shots ever came from these cameras, which in my opinion the best camera for a someone who wants great shots, without becoming a serious photographic enthusiast.

But the series is just not DPR's cup of tea. Every D5xxx for the past six years, has been the exact same 79, from the D to the D It's still the only one with a fully articulating screen. Image quality took a huge leap forward with the D mp up from 16 in the D, and then in the D the OLPF filter was dropped so that images could come out significantly sharper. From the D on, it has been fine tuning. In the sections below we will explore the frequencies and types of RFID systems.

The value of the resistor should be equal to the wave impedance of the transmission line that created by the antenna wire and the ground under the wire. Loop antennas are also directional which may help nulling out hum and other interfering signals. As a mechanism for interaction of particles with fields and as a diagnostic tool for probing the structure of the magnetosphere, ULF waves are a rich medium for research and discovery.
