Improve mod organizer download speed

2021.12.16 17:29

This tier includes "Supporters", recognised mod authors and users who do not use Adblockers. Users in this tier will have their download cap increased to 2MB a second, which is double what Adblock users will receive. Please note, for non-premium users your download speed is shared across all files you download.

If you have multiple files downloading at once, this is the expected behaviour. It is important to recognise a Premium membership removes our restrictions on your download speed but does not guarantee you faster downloads.

The download speed cap on Nexus Mods ensures we can budget for and keep our substantial bandwidth bills within an acceptable price range and aren't shocked or utterly destroyed! We use a global CDN to serve our files and our bandwidth is charged by the 95th percentile method.

Essentially, that means we're charged based on the speeds we deliver, not the total amount of files that are downloaded. Thus, the faster users download from us, the more our bandwidth bills will cost.

By limiting the speeds, we ensure that our expenses remain linked to the number of users who use our site and not the connection speeds of our user base. As a result, it's far easier to budget our bandwidth bills based on our active user base because more users typically means more ad revenue which means the increased bandwidth costs will be offset by the increased advertising income.

If we didn't cap our downloads we could not budget in the same way. There is snippet from Tannin that has a bearing on the matter. I have that situation in the installations of MO besides the first one.

I've made bug report on the matter. There seems to be no way to get MO to generate a list of servers if Nexus doesn't give you one. No, how would it? MO lists all servers Nexus transmitted in the last download in that instance of MO If there is only one which is it? In my XP , MO download speed is akin to downloading any other way and thus limited by Nexus side of things. Switching preferred servers like tannin mentions can have a big impact unless there are no choices, then try refreshing MO maybe.

The other major difference is whether or not one has a Nexus Premium account or not. I purchased this years ago, since I had been using the site for so long that it just seemed 'right' to support it. Afterwards, I noticed right away that my 1GB downloads only required a few minutes to complete. Premium servers are probably one to two orders of magnitude faster than standard servers, and you can prioritize them in MO I think. I understand MO has no impact on the selection of servers but I am confused why on my first installation of MO my available servers box shows this:.

I haven't been a premium account user for years and certainly never since using MO so why are my settings so different? On other side of the table, consider how much money it costs Nexus to maintain server racks, redundant disk storage, network bandwidth, and electricity and employee costs to give us easy access to all these free mods.

I think the only servers I've used are the premium servers and the CDN, so I'm not sure if the standard servers are generally slower or the non-premium accounts are throttled or perhaps both. Before Nexus moved to the CDN I just picked whichever server was at the top of the list and these are normally the premium servers.

Still I may go lifetime premium at some point in the future it doesn't answer though the server listings on my installations? Yeah, I got to second this thread As a lifetime Nexus Premium Member MO2 downloads suck If Nexus is responsible shame on them, I paid for premium service I'm getting capped at 1MB as a non-premium spread over all downloads I do at once, something that the Nexus has informed people of repeatedly. If you've just upgraded to premium, give it 24 hours.

If not, you'll have to communicate with Nexus. MO does not control download speeds. Skip to content. Star 1k. New issue. Jump to bottom. Copy link. Environment Mod Organizer Version that exhibits the issue: 2.
