It also transmit some "matureness" despite the nature of their surrealistic life, they understand their position as influencers and gave a clear message from what they value the most: a joyful life.

My husband was given this book by one of his friends that works for a music magazine just as we were heading out for a road trip. I picked it up and read the first few paragraphs just out of curiosity, not expecting to ever really read the book.

I was initially sucked in by the absurd and hilarious stories, and stuck around as the band members discussed their early lives and early days of NOFX, while delving into some harsh memories.

I always was a casual listener of NOFX, saw them a few times live, but never really thought much about what went on behind the crazy stage antics. In an era before everything was shared on the internet, NOFX had just the right amount of mythology around them - most listeners only knew what was shared in liner notes, some rumours most notably the El Hefe was in Bad News Bears one , and the knowledge that Fat Mike ran a wildly successful record label.

This book goes into a lot of detail. Perhaps too much? I liked the switching of perspectives between each member of the band, sometimes retelling the same story from different points of view.

As advertised by its title, sometimes the book targets specific wild instances and stories. It really is amazing that each of the members haven't died or been incarcerated at one point or another. I applaud some of the members triumphs over addictions, challenging childhoods, and as a band for lasting as a group through so many years. My main beef with the book is that it is just too long.

As I listened on audiobook it was great that each member read their own parts , I found the first third of the book quite compelling, as it painted a pretty vivid picture of southern California in the early 80s and it sounds awful. But about halfway through, it just felt like we were slowly going through the decades. Fortunately, the period between about and current day was covered quicker.

While this book would have been carefully edited, the band members tell stories quite nicely, but they aren't natural storytellers, and sometimes the prose gets clunky and boring. As an approach to band autobiography, I liked that each member got more or less equal time to tell their stories, and were able to give their own perspective of their time as a band.

Any fan, former or current, would find something to enjoy in this book, whether the truly ridiculous stories, or the plight of the touring band slowly making waves in the music industry. This book has all of that and then some! The book is told from the point of view of each band member, as they all tell their story from how they got into playing music and the punk scene back in the 80's.

It also covers their addictions, their relationships with their families and their losses along the way. Mike also goes into a lot about I absolutely loved this book!

Mike also goes into a lot about his sexuality, which I think is pretty brave and interesting to talk about in a book like this. However, this is the kind of book that anyone can read and really enjoy. These are stories you want to hear when you're at the bar with your friends, sharing dumb things you did when you were younger.

That's not to say there aren't touching moments either. There were a few moments that the guy brought up that really had me thinking about life and family and how much time we have on this planet.

There were other stories I could really relate to that had me saying "Yea! Anyway, I could go on and on about the book, but I'll just finish with sayign that I had a hard time putting it down and if you're into autobiographies in any way, I think you'll really be into this one as well! So I will be honest, a lot of this book was really hard to read. Not because it was bad, in a written way at least… But because some of the experiences were so horrific that it was heartbreaking.
