Anagami [PCSG] v Azkend 2 [PCSE] v Bastion US-EN. Bastion [PCSE] v Borderlands 2 EU-EN. It is the first title in the Ridge Racer series. It is the first Ridge Racer series game released in the PlayStation console. This game uses the same game's covers for both the Japanese version and the North America version.
It was also included in the NamCollection for the PlayStation 2 in , released exclusively in Japan. This game followed by Ridge Racer Revolution. Ridge Racer was very innovative for its time, introducing minor car sim elements intertwined with the gameplay.
Course Select allowed the player to choose a course, each of varying difficulty, and choose between the two modes of a Race against 11 other cars and Time Trial against one other car.
The Course Select screen also displays data about the course's shape and difficulty. After the players wins all the race modes, the player has to go to the "Time Trial" either regular or extra race mode and this will turn into a 3 car battle.
The player will have to face one more extra car- "Devil 13th Racing" car. This car is very fast and extremely difficult to beat due to a lack of rear view mirror. To win, the player must learn the perfect racing line of the track. By sticking to racing line around the track, the Devil car will be blocked from passing and will crash into the back to the player. If the player manages to block the car for all 3 laps and wins the race, they will obtain the Devil car. Seems to have come in a black paper sleeve.
Notes The first three listed variants came with identical discs. The first came in a red sleeve with Formula 1 '97 listed as a playable demo, although it is not on the disc. On the second red sleeve the title has been removed from the list. The third variant came in a purple sleeve. These three were printed and pressed in Japan.
There is an unconfirmed variant which came in a purple paper sleeve with a top flap. I found the lure of winning new cars strangely motivating and kept me playing. If you are not a fan of the Ridge Racers games, this one is sure not going to change that.
This is old school arcade racing right down to the shiny looking graphics. After playing Need for Speed Most Wanted , I missed the obstacles such as oncoming traffic and hidden shortcuts. Oh, and the announcer guy has to be the most annoying person in videogame history. Aside from all of that, you can't deny the game has some good fun to offer but just not for everyone.
