Often, especially for those in creative professional or knowledge economy roles, we rely on email to communicate professionally and send more complex and detailed information.

Mail downloads, also known as attachments, are a big feature in busy inboxes, either taking up space in the cloud - if you use a cloud-based email client - on your phone, and if you use a desktop-based email client, on your Mac too. Apart from inside your inbox, mail attachments are found in one of two - or both - places within your Mac.

You may also have some on your iPhone or iPad if you have email on another device. The common way to view, save or delete email attachments in Mail the built-in Mac OS email client one by one:. Select a message that includes attachments.

Look for the Attachment icon next to the sender's name in the message list. In the message, do one of the following: Open an attachment in an app: Double-click the attachment. To delete Mail downloads saved in this folder just delete the files you don't need and then close the folder. In some cases, you may have a duplicate of the same downloads in both folders, which means these will be taking up even more space.

By default, most apps will transfer downloaded files into the user Downloads folder. This applies to all downloads to a Mac made from the web with Safari, Chrome, through AirDrop, or from the many file transfer apps out there.

The Downloads folder exists in the Dock of Mac OS by default, so unless it has been removed it will be there for all users to have quick access to by accessing the Dock at the bottom of the Mac screen. It will be located on the right side of the Dock near the Trash can. The Finder menu bar also provides quick access to the Mac Downloads folder. Another method of accessing the Downloads folder is from the Finder window sidebar.

You can either use Finder search or Spotlight to look for files. Finder Search must be accessed from a file system window in the Finder. If you click on a file result in the Finder Find feature, the path to the file will be visible in the Finder windows status bar. This is for Mac, but on iPad the downloaded files from Safari will default to go to your iCloud Drive. If you open the Files app you should be able to find the files you downloaded to your iPad.

Stacey, this is about finding downloads on the Mac. The iPad is not a Mac. So, I downloaded the files to my iPad so my question is, where will they be? Can somebody please email me. Why must we open the DL folder in the finder first? Is it too much to ask to have the functionality directly from the DL folder? Is there any way of accessing the Mac HD in Finder quickly?

Never knew you could do this, and I find it very handy, so thanks for the tip ;-. I seldom download, but when I do I want it to show up on the Desktop as a reminder that I have something new to contend with.

I would prefer to never use the download folder, I have no intuition to go to it. How do I avoid it and have everything go to desktop. It varies per application.
