The status code returned is [OK]. When was the HTML file that you are retrieving last modified at the server? Mon, Oct 8, at almost the minute I requested the file. How many bytes of content are being returned to your browser? I do not see any different headers. The only packet contained the status code and phrase. My browser sent 3 http GET message requests. One each to each for each of the following: The initial page, the Pearson logo, and the cover of the Pearson book, 5th Edition. Initial Page address: The browser downloaded the two images in serially. I believe this to be the case because the first image was requested and sent before the second image was requested by the browser.

Had they been running in parallel, both files would have been requested then would have returned in the same time period. In order, they are the first GET request, the server response, the second GET request, and the second server response. Inspect the contents of the server response. Did the server explicitly return the contents of the file?

How can you tell? Yes it did, it sent the OK message, which means nothing was wrong, and it sent bytes Content-length. The status code is Not Modified. No the server did not explicitly return the contents of the file, because it was not modified. I can tell because no bytes were sent. No content-length specified. This part explores the retrieval of long documents.

To figure this out I opened the TCP segments in the packet content window and looked for the one that showed the OK message. This was in the first packet. I will not post a picture of each http information, but just one picture of the captured packets:.
