Helpful Links. Need to manage multiple devices? Is the adapter rated 30V? Because when I used one with 24 V the scanner doesn't work Did you ever think that maybe they weren't worth fixing or maybe they can't even be fixed? Maybe that's why there aren't any responses on this POS. Here are some "glowing" reviews of the product. From the start, this product printed only oddly colored pastels where there should have been vibrant jewel tones.

Tech support's advice was thoroughly unhelpful. Then it stopped working altogether. After several visits to the Lexmark support site, 2 phone calls to tech support, it became apparent that I had a made a VERY bad purchase. It sat in its place on my file cabinet, taking up space, for almost 6 months while I did all my printing at my office. Now, it only works intermittently. Throughout the time that I have owned it 2 years , I've replaced the ink cartridges far too many times approx 6 for the amount of printing I was able to coax from it.

Furthermore, even when the cartridges were brand new, it would always warn that the cartridges were low. I was browsing on to Amazon today to research and order a new all-in-one printer, thought I'd check out reviews for the X83, and couldn't resist sharing my own experience with this horribly disappointing machine.

I've been running my X83 on WinXP for 18 months with no real problems. Occasional problems were usually solved by re-booting the computer. My usage of this machine is only about pages per month let's see, page x 18 months, that's about pages over the lifetime of this printer. A week ago, I started to print a document and noticed that the printer wasn't "On".

Of course now I'm stuck with three unopened ink cartridges as well. Nothing else from this company for me. Also, I just learned that Lexmark makes Dell's printers, so stay away from those as well. What can I say.

From the day I bought this piece of junk it has failed to work properly. Emailing back and forth with Lexmark's tech support was fruitless on most occasions. Problems popped up, disappeared and popped up again with no rhyme or reason. I might add that my brother-in-law is a tech expert at a major university and could never figure out the slings and arrows of outrageous misfortune I suffered with this printer.

Learn from my mistake. Right now it serves as a gigantic paperweight. I'm too lazy to call my town's special pick-up garbage service to haul it away. Hi: I had the same problem noted by several others - the print cartridges were slamming against the left hand side of the printer so hard they were jarring the print cartridges loose. I tried turning the printer upside down and shaking it. Guess what - it stopped the problem. I still haven't solved the original issue, which was making it recognize the black ink cartridge.

At least now, I have a fighting chance. I cannot print with this piece of 'vagabond' called Lexmark X It is a disgrace to spend your hard-earned money for a piece of worthless machine. There should be a law against this type of thing. If I get the opportunity I am going to take this printer straight to you Lexmark and get group of people to protest not to buy anything from your company. Then the tech-support that you claim to have is a disgrace.

They have no idea what they are talking about. They need support themselves. They talk all types of hogwash and keep decent people up all night. I am fed-up. I will never buy a product even starting with the letter "L" muchless Lexmark!!!! May all Lexmark products burn in the firey pit of hell. My printer will not print a color photo but will print in black and white.

I have Kodak high gloss picture paper and have done this before but it won't print in color now. I thought the problem was the color cartridge so I changed it.

Now my printer has a printer error that says "cartridge short" hit power. I hit power and then it reconfigures and says the same thing "cartridge short". I have taken the cartridges out, unplugged and everything. I have a lexmark X83, and i keep getting a message about the "Cover Open" but the cover is closed.

Any suggestions on how to fix this problem? You're a life or should I say a printer saver amashh. Your suggestion worked perfectly. Thank you. I have the Lexmark all in one printer and it's been jamming the paper to the point that it won't print at all.

Now it displays System error AO4. I can not print.. I can not! Thank you : Irene. I cannot print. My printer is stuck in copy mode. I have tried rebooting several times. Anyone else had this problem and how do you correct? My friend has a X83 printer it never stop running. The printer does't really print, it just runs no ink will come out. It will not clean. I told her to dump it. They cost too much to have so many problems.

Please email me on how to fix it. I have unstalled and reinstalled and still doesn't work. The printer says unlock scan bedit is unlocked and wont do anything! How do I fix this? I have unplugged, tried new cable, and still every time I plug it in it tells me scan bed is locked. My Lexmark X83 has given me fits for the 4 years I have owned it. I have had the "Unlock Scanner" message twice, I unplugged the USB and power cable, then worked the red lever on the back up and down severa times.

I then plugged everything back in, powered up and it worked both times. I have also had the "cannot communicate with the printer" message, dozens of times sometimes unplugging and replugging the USB works, but many times the conrol panel shows that I don't have a printer installed. Sometimes restarting the computer solves the problem, but many times I have had to reinstall the Lexmark program to cure the problem.

I am very disappointed with Lexmark and I doubt I will buy any of their products again. I hope this helps with your problems. Can I get a new one, or is there some other way I can reinstall the printer? Hello I am inquiring about an encoder strip?

I get the message carrier stall and the error Lost my installation CD! Please HELP!!! My mother's kept doing the same thing- not sure why but if you pull out the printer cartridge and put it back in, it seems to fix it. My printer make noise in the startup and says carrier stall - press power key.. Any help is much appreciated. I know this may sound crazy but it worked for me. Disconnect the USB cable from the printer and your desktop and reconnect.

Power down your computer and printer you may have to take the power cord out of the printer to get it to turn off Once you have done all of the above turn the printer back on first and then the computer. It worked for me and I have not had the problem again. Good Luck! HEY: Do any of you people notice that you're not getting any help? You should start your own tread if your problem does not relate to the original poster's problem.

That way, you will have a better chance of getting noticed. They are a pain to find but try crayton or krayton electronics. I've had it for 3 mos. Ck reviews. Good luck! I had my power adapter fail and had to acquire a new unit.

Fortunately for me there was a supply house nearby. Good Luck. I hope this info helps. Regards, Stan - Anonymous. STOP posting messages on this site. No one ever gets real help. Here's a website for reporting Lexmark problems. I'm not saying if this works or anything like that. Well since I figured something must be stuck on the inside or some switch wasn't getting hit or released I decided to open mine up If you want to know the part number for the motor assembly its J27AC. I have no idea what you can do with that number.

It's probably specifically built for Lexmark Products Probably costs like 10 bucks. I have another printer but I do need the scanner so its worth a little of my time.. Anyways hopes this help. If you are not technically inclined and don't have the patience to look this part up than I suggest you throw this thing in your trunk, take a long drive into a heavily wooded area, park, take item out of the trunk, put scarface cd into car cd player Thank you I have to go get another drink now.

There seems to be some compatibility issue between the driver and Win XP. I'm trying to fix my uncle's x83 which seems to have started malfunctioning about same time they upgrade OS to XP. The error that I'm seeing is the same "cannot communicate with the printer" message. I'll try to contact tech support with this info and see if I get anything back.

The card got out of alignment and caused a jam. I cannot see the card to pull it out. Any suggestions? If you need software of any type, go to the Lexmark web site and check it out.

If you do not have computer savvy skills, call Lexmark tech support for what those Indians are worth at LEXMARK If your printer has carrier stall issues, I fixed my X83 by putting the encoder strip back into the cart carrier. It is a narrow plastic strip with metal wires in it that runs the entire width of the printer's interior.

It slides right back in. What do you have to lose? Unfortunately, the Lexmark web site bytes. I keep getting Internal Errors everytime I want to download the correct freaking driver. Their site is so slow and riddled with cgi errors!

And now when I open the door where the cartridges are, they don't move to the center. I'm not so stupid, but seeing all the above I guess I have a printer problem too, rather than an "operator problem. I can't change it unless I grab it. I have a windows xp and a lexmark x83 printer.

Please help me! I don't even know what the transparent tape is. I've cleaned everything I could inside of my printer, but it still says carrier stall. What should I do? Thanks for your time! This worked very well for me, too. I recommend it to others. We used a q-tip. I dont know what the problem is with this printer. Everything works fine, but it dont stay working.

The problem is this, every time I want to use the printer to print something I have to uninstall and install just to use it. When I turn off my computer it wont communcate with the printer anymore. I've done this over a hundred times and I'm getting tired.

Anyone out there with a solution? Hi, I just had exactly the same problem? I resolved it by just opening the front flap and closing it again and it solved the problem! I'am writting from Germany. My problem:everytime I refill the cartridge the color one I'm getting a message on monitor saying "cartridge is not found" even if it's full. A very problematic maschine indeed!! I've tryed to clean the kontakts with alcohol but nothing happened. Do you have the same problem like me?

Please help me if you know a good solution. Thank you!! My Problem Unit 1. Failed solution 1. I was able to trick the system check by removing the rubber track and moving the carrier over the undamage encoder strip. Solution: 1. Hello Nate! Where is that encoder strip? Fany - Anonymous. I own a lexmark printer and i cant even get it to come on.
