Although everyone has a life outside of work, life's distractions can sometimes interfere and cause hazards In the event an employee has a traumatic event like a divorce or illness, it can have adverse effects on their mood and emotions negatively.

Even so, it's important workers do not allow their personal problems affect their performance while on the job. It's important for management and the workforce to understand that distracted workers are less aware of their surroundings and less productive.

This type of activity causes accidents, which will cost the company money and time. In the end, distracted workers are more likely to cause accidents.

Organizations have safety procedures in place and educate their workforce to prevent accidents from happening. One of the worst things any employee can do is to neglect or ignore the safety procedures. Whether it's deliberate or unintentional, neglecting safety procedures in the workplace places the individual and everyone else in the organization in danger. It's also not enough for the workforce to casually follow the safety procedures. A System Induced Hazard is a hazard that is created or ignored through company policies and procedures. To avoid System Induced Hazards, a company will often conduct an internal or external safety audit of its procedures and systems.

Audits like these can uncover unforeseen hazards that are a result of poor procedures and systems put in place by management. Conducting safety audits within the workplace is extremely important. These audits show employees that management has every intention to consistently innovate and update its procedures to prevent unforeseen hazards.

In conjunction, management must ensure training is available to all employees in order to complete the task safely and successfully. Very rarely do accidents simply occur in the workplace sporadically or by chance. A pattern of unsafe behavior always leads to an accident. This is the golden question. So, how do we prevent them?

You need a selection and hiring process that helps you only hire safe, risk-averse employees. You need an on-boarding system to teach new employees about safety.

And, you need to train employees on defensive driving and injury-prevention strategies. The latter is usually the best place to start. Once your employees understand what they need to do to prevent accidents, you can enjoy all the benefits that come with reduced cost of loss and incidents.
