What do nw and nc stand for

You need to be colour matched in store - it's quick, done by a pro and costs nothing.. I love MAC concealers.. So the girl at the make up counter was right on! I would advise to go to a MAC store or Macy's before buying this product online.. They will try it on you, to see which color matches. It's a bit pricey so it's best to make sure to get the right one.

Thanks for clearing up the colour shades issue for me : I was recently just matched for the Pro longwear and the MUA suggested that I am a NC20 got a sample, as was out of stock , but following your guide I should be in the NW range as I am fair with fairly red cheeks, do you think he suggested that to counter balance the redness?

Since forever have I been told that warm is for yellows greenish veins and tans easily , and cool is for pinks bluish veins and sun sensitivity I am still convinced of that. It should really be mentioned here that MAC does NOT adhere to the beauty world standard in their definitions of warm and cool as Anonymous above has mentioned.

MAC uses the reverse for some reason, but they are the only respected makeup brand that I have seen that does this. I hope not too many people see this guide and think that these definitions of warm and cool are the standard because there is no warning to the contrary! I have blue eyes and medium brown hair my skin is pale to medium,which do you think I should go for,I always seem to get it wrong. Please help me. I have bought Mac Studio Fix NW45 and everyone including myself seem to be of the opinion that it is making me look a bit darker.

HI, the mac guy gave me my studio fix powder in shade c 4. And vice versa with NC. Not warm? I don't think that does excist, not warm is cool and cool is C so If u cud help me Or it can work.. I googled undertone and found that cool undertone means pink and warm undertone means yellow, golden. Now I am really confused Best to go in to a shop and test it out. Your skin changes tone slightly throughout the year. I am indian and can switch between the nc and the nw range, my skin is light to olive and I found the NW covers and blends better, I used to get bright pictures when using the flash on my camera, so my body would look completely different to my face, and also it never blended with the neckline and chest area, NW seems to be the perfect blend.

At first I thought it was the lighting, but then I kept taking photos in different lighting and realised it was the foundation. Its definitely not my primer, or my moisturiser. I have mainly golden undertones, no red or pink at all in my skin I've only recently learnt that the 'NC' shades of 'Golden Beige' skin actually include peach, yellow, and gold undertones For someone who has no pink or red in their skin, I think this could be the problem.

This is my personal experience getting hired. Nc 25 is too dark and nc 15 is too light and nc 20 is not look like something on face. And face and body no for me.

If nw 20 is my tone.. And I want to go for NC.. What would be the best substitute nw 20 in NC? NC 30 fix fluid mqtches me but i have pink undertones so which shade will suit me in NW range. Normally Mac makes me look like I am not wearing make up. They just give me cool and neutral undertones separately. I would go with the lightest color in the c range or the second to lightest color in the c category.

For eg: If you have reddish dark circles like i do then even if you are an NC in foundation, you will need an NW in a concealer to neutralize them. In fact , a lot of people get confused because they blindly purchase the same shade concealer as their foundation and then feel like it doesnt do anything for them.

I am an NC in foundation and an NW in concealer. One quick way is to check the veins on your forearm If they appear greenish- you are likely to have warm skin and likely to need an NC shade. If they appear blue-ish you are likely to have cool skin and need an NW shade. This would be an approximate way. What is the equivalent of an NC 30 in an NW? There is no equivalent!

The colours that form the base of each foundation differ and cannot strictly be compared though you may find approximate matches. Hey theres no hard and gfast rule like that. So i use an nc foundation but an nw concealer! Such a brilliant post! So I guess even NC has a few shades with a touch of pink but is for warmer skinned people overall. Im an NC and have really dark eye circles. What would i use for that? Being fair or dark has nothing to do with being cool-toned needing NW or being warm-toned needing NC.

The veins test is the best and correct method of judging. I am medium fair yellowish looking but extremely cool-toned while my Caucasion White green-eyed blonde friend is extremely warm-toned! Another way to judge is, what looks worse or better on you? A bright orange or a bright pink? No bother for me because that was my foundation jam back then. Side note: This is also why highlighting and contouring is important for women of color which I really explained in my Why One Foundation May Not Cut it for Women of Color post because of the way so many of us are naturally colored.

Because if you were to just put one foundation shade over all those beautiful natural shade variations, it can make you look very flat and in some cases unnatural.

I dunno. Way too light. Then I tried NW Too light. I tried NW A touch too light and off in undertone NW45 and NW46 were probably off in undertone as well but them being too light was the first dealbreaker. NW48 was the closest match but it still was off in undertone.

Updated Foundation Routine. No foundation-shaming here ;. Its like all those back in the day who refused to let Fashion Fair go lol. After awhile you realize hopefully that there are other brands out there who have not only better shades but better undertones to suit you. NC 45 or 44 is the closest match but the undertones are too off for my more neutral skin tones.

Being brown and Neutral is tough when it comes to base shopping. Gotta step outside the MAC box. I still like some stuff from them but powders and foundations are a NO. And yasssss for stepping outside the MAC box!
