Hi there! I also live on Long Island and have a s Colonial Revival home. We've lived here for 30 years and I've slowly replaced all the windows in the house. I think it's really important to have consistency in the home, so I'd recommend using the same series of windows throughout. We started with Andersen windows, and although I like the Marvins better, we stayed with Andersen for the sake of consistency and price.
I must say that they've held up very well and look appropriate for the period of the home. I don't remember which series they are, but they are wood inside and not shiny white vinyl-clad outside, so they don't need painting. All except one are double-hung; there is a casement bay in the living room looking out to the backyard. We have the pop-in grilles but if I had to do it over I'd choose the permanent grilles they weren't available back then! I'm not sure where on LI you are, but if there's a Perimeters store near you, that's where I'd head.

I'm a little late following-up. It took about a week to paint, including a few repairs and we're very happy with it. After 15 years of dingy white, it took a little getting used to yellow. But change can be hard and they've adapted. We survived a very long winter, and looking at my bright yellow house surrounded by snow was a lovely sight. I haven't forgotten about flair lighting's recommendation to switch out the light fixtures.
